Another "Which Tesoro Is Best" Question

My main interest is detecting gold rings only on the beach in dry sand. I'm not looking for a deep detector, 5 inch maximum depth is fine with me. Want something a bit better than the compadre. Suggestions?

The only thing that I can think of that would be better than a Compadre for gold/jewelry is having two Compadres, one for each hand ;).

Better, how?
Others might be deeper, I found a very tiny 10k ring about 7-8" deep once with my Vaq in the sand, but I don't know of any others as sensitive to gold, large and small and that includes chains as the Compadre.
Especially within that depth range.
I have found several gold rings with mine, if you swing your coil over gold, and know well the areas gold comes in so you will dig it if you get that gold signal, the process should be effortless and fairly easy.
Do you have the small coil and want to cover more area quicker, or what?

Given your detecting requirements for a new detector,i cannot see any reason too upgrade from what you are currently using,as they say if it aint broke dont try and fix it.

Are you currently finding items on the dry sand, you dont mention anything about that, why just limit yourself to just 5'' so basically if you get a good signal and it lower than 5'' you would leave it ??? of course you may have some health restrictions that limit you too 5'' then of course i fully understand but you dont mention that either.

My vote would stay with what you have.

Outlaw, that would be better , lots moor options

call tesoro..my opinion is that the tejon has the right frequency for gold. I use it at the beach sometimes and the widescan coils are better there than a concentric..just my 2 cents

I'd seek out an older unit with ground balance, like a Bandido II. Less salt interference.

But that's just me.

Is it just a depth issue? PM Ski Whiz and ask him how to adjust the sensitivity pot to make your Compadre hotter. Do you have the smaller coil or the 8"? Maybe try the 8" for more depth. Is it a saltwater beach? As stated above, the Tejon is deeeeep! For saltwater look at the Sand Shark, depth will no longer be an issue then.

If you can pick up a second hand Lobo ST for a good price then you can't go wrong. Its a proven machine that has tested the sands of time with exellent discrimination. Hits hard on gold and a pleasure to swing.
Cheers!

Good advice Nugget. There are always some on that big auction place.
