hello all, this copper coin was given to me by a friend, but am at a loss to know exactly what it is. i already know what your're thinking... that it's a machin's mill half penny or a nova eborac [new york] half penny. it is dateless, but the orientations of the obverse and reverse figures don't add up. similar pieces were made around 1787. i checked out the red book and have done some searches, but nothing yet. could it be a pattern piece? thanks, and hh,

Very unusual my friend! Keep us informed on what the heck it is! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

LOOKS TO ME LIKE A 1786- 1787 MAILED BUST FACING LEFT (WORTH MORE THAN THE ONES FACING RIGHT) PG. 29 OF THE BLUE BOOK CONNECTICUT POST COLONIAL ISSUES. IM NOT SURE HOW THEY GRADE THESE FOR WORTH BUT IT (COULD BE) I STRESS THAT BECAUSE IM NOT A COIN GRADER AND JUST A CASUAL COLLECTOR 1 TO 2 HUNDRED IN THE DEALERS (BLUE BOOK) BUT AGAIN MORE OR LESS I DONT KNOW PROBABLEY MORE! HAPPY HUNTING MY FRIEND AND TO ALL SCOTT C

it's a 1750s era british half penny. minted during the reign of king george the second, it was used almost exclusively for colonies under british rule. it's somewhat generic in nature, having no legends or a date. thanks to all, and especially to ian and his friends in scotland! hh,

That is an extremely fine piece to add to any collection...Glad you finally found out what it is...I have no foreign coin books...only the internet to help me...I only keep the RED and BLUE books for American coins on hand...look everything else up...
