Found this close to an old 1800's railroad grade. Newer building on site. Measures about 7/8" by 7/8", so not very big. Very heavy for its size, and I assume it to be brass. I thought it to be a Boy Scout neckerchief slide, but it is much smaller then the slides I have found. Notice the notch on the back side. Do you suppose it goes over a button?

Looks like it might be intended to slide on two strings as in a "bolo tie". Apparently no every scout troupe wears scarves, some choose the bolo tie.
I read this in a Scout history document.

"Neckwear on both uniforms includes the neckerchief and the bolo tie as selected by the unit."

It's still a guess though...

That looks like it counld be of those origins.
Looks like it was made to fit over the top shirt button and not to be worn with any kind of tie.
I believe that the emblem is correct before the Eagle was added in this country.

Then again. It could just be some kind of french flor de lis button or snap cover.
Cool find none the less
