Another V-Nickel with the GT

Old California

New member
A local park aways seems to give up a V-Nickel once in a while, Nickel was down between 7" to 8" inches and read both in the nickel range or slightly above with the Patriot meter. This particular park is one of those parks a user can almost call a deep coin, especially deep nickels.

Was a treat for sore eyes, 1897 which is a little older than what normally comes out of here.

Thanks for looking,

Paul

I will say that the Sovereigns just love nickles and they have a tone that is different then the pull tabs, maybe it is a smoother tone, but is one you know once you hear it a few times.I find that some of the war nickles will sound like a nickle, but read on my Sun Ray meter higher like the round pulltabs do, but the tone says nickle.

Nice to see you posting some good finds with the Sovereign.

Hello Rick,

We both go way back with the Sovereign, I still remember my first sovereign hunt and didn't have a clue what I was doing. Even with being lost, managed to get a Rosie dime that day.

Back then, everything was big. SunRay probe box was bigger than today's detectors, coils were solid not open like today's, Sovereign control box with meter mounted above handle, yards of coil cable running along the shaft. How we managed back then is amazing, and it took a good year to learn the Sovereign.

Good to see you're still out there Rick, you take care and hope you're retired by now you sure works hard back then.

Nice job with the V. Good to see you're still getting out while the rest of us are freezing. :nopity:

I'm still liking that rig you put together. How are you liking the Patriot meter?

Prior to the freeze I was getting a little bit of time with the GT I picked up late summer. Have one of Ron's meters this time to avoid the miles of cable issue I had with the XS-2a Pro some years back. Sov still does good. Something pleasant about that audio makes hunting with the SOV better than your average detector.

Keep up posted. Winter hunts now are infrequent road trips south.

Hello Rich,

When the freeze is over you'll need to get out there with the GT,. For park silver it's a go-getter. I'm glad to see you have one, and using one of Ron's meter's you're set.

I like the Patriot meter, it has its positives just like the 180 meter's. It doesn't have the minelab wiggle abilities but that's one of the reasons I prefer the Patriot meter, instead a deep coin sort of locks were it's suppose too especially a deep nickel.

You take care Rich, and now's the time to followup one research or finish up a detector project ☺

Paul

Thank you Ron,

This pounded park still gives up an old nickel or two, that's what is left old nickels we cleared out the high conductive signals years ago but passed up those deep nickel signals.

Thanks Ron!
