Another super day with the X-70 got an 1865 Indian

ok I am pumped up again today, indian pennies are my absolute favorite coin and today I found my oldest so far. Just friday I broke my record for my oldest US coin when I found that 1882 seated dime, now today I broke my record again by finding an 1865 indian penny. It is rough and even bent a little, but I don't care. I am still smiling !!

I also got a 1944 mercury dime, a cool toy badge, and some clad. Another great hunt with my new X-70, loving this machine more everytime I use it.

Wow, nice going. My first hunt with the XT-70 was today and we found a church activities area over near where we've been relic hunting and we did a little clad hunting. But, my day wasn't anywhere as impressive as yours. We found $2.01 in clad. But, we're going to be going back there as its obvious this area has not been hunted as it didn't take long to get our clad and I didn't move out of an area of about 15 feet square. Now I gotta find out how we're going to clean up this clad as some of the nickles and dimes are real cruddy. The XT-70 did a real good job of identifying junk, with foil coming up in single digits, nickles coming up consistently at 12, pull tabs at 22-24, pennies in the 30-32 range, dimes in the 34-38, and quarters in the 40s.

Anyway, I too am impressed by this machine and your pictures are great!

the only pennies i get in that range are zinc pennies, pre 1982 copper pennies, and wheats show as 34-36 and even some at 38 for me
the clad dimes were 38, and the 3 silver dimes I found this weekend were either 38 or 40

Yep, I do envy you finding good copper and beautiful silver. I have a couple of ghost town sites I plan on hunting soon that might start producing those kind of goodies. However, yes the older coins are going to register different than the clad I found as well as they should clean up better. We're planning on taking our clad finds at the end of the season and buy a silver coin or two to add to the collection. Not as nice as finding silver, but it still adds up, none-the-less. I for one, look forward to seeing what you're going to turn up next. Keep up the good work!

Nice finds. When you are hunting an area that is likely to have some IH cents, don't ignore those consistent mid-20's readings. (24, 26, 28 ) I've dug IH cents as low as 24 on the X-70 TID. HH Randy

this year I have found about $95 in clad so far, and my plan at the end of the season is to cash it in at the bank, take it all to the coin store and buy silver coins! so you have a great idea!

Congrats on the very good finds! I really like that badge, and the IH and Merc are sweet also! Very nice hunting, Beale.

A place with many finds is a good training grounds for the new detector. There is nothing more depressing than to use that new detector all day and find few or zero coins as you need confidence in the machine. Old or new coins, a spot with many good signals will get you on the road of learning a new machine.
