Used my water rig today but I got skunked other than some coins, junk, and 1 big loop earing made from junk metal. I also got a ying/yang (or whatever they are called) pendant, also junk. As deep as I could go (just above my belly button with the GT chest/shoulder mounted) everything was sanded in bad, so all I was picking up were fresh drops, and those were few and far between. I wish I could have got another 10 feet out, because my 3 friends were hunting almost shoulder deep and that's where the action was...
They had found a washed out area (or cut) and the goodies starting popping up. My friend with an Excal using the old 8" BBS coil got 1 silver rosie, 1 silver washington, and a big man's gold class ring dated 1967. The other Excal guy, using the old 10" BBS coil on his Excal, got a really old looking sterling religous pendant and a silver standing liberty quarter (worn badly). The Tiger Shark guy got skunked like me.
Just my luck of the draw. If I had been there a week or two ago there was a cut in very shallow water and my friend had made some good finds there. Next time he tells me a cut has opened I won't procrastinate. If only the one they found today was about foot to two shallower, I would have been right in there with them among those older finds. Well, at least I cleaned most of the signals from there all the way to the beach. I gridded pretty hard and only left a few super deep large targets that I got sick of chasing after numerous scoops heading to China.
It was still nice to get out with some friends. Tomorrow morning I may try another beach on another nearby lake I haven't hit since last year. It's a small beach but we've got gold out of there in the past.
Oh by the way, using the 10" Tornado on my water shaft today for sure it's got a good bit less drag than the 12x10. 12x10 is my weapon of choice for land hunting, but the Tornado is my water coil. If I get a S-12 some day and it's not really any more drag than the Tornado then it'll be my water coil and I'll sell off the Tornado maybe because I'll have no use for it on land or water anymore.
