Another short hike, with photos.

A few weeks back while visiting family up in Central California I was able to do a little bit of easy hiking at the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge. At the refuge they have a 3.8 mile gravel trail that takes you through the restored habitat for the critters that live near the river. They include, all types of birds, such as herons and hawks, small foxes, owls, and rodents. While walking the trail I continously could hear the rustling of the creatures in the underbrush. The refuge up until about 10-12 yrs ago was farming land, which is why you see some old agricultural remains along the trail in the photos.

As you may have heard on the news this past week, most of California is in a severe drought, and from the photos it is little wonder why. One little spark and the whole refuge would have gone up like a match!

Hope everyone enjoys. The slideshow is best viewed normally without enlarging. The Kodak being a 5 megapixel camera, they don't look to good fullsized on a compter screen. Photos taken with the Kodak Zx5 (still haven't gotten a case small enough for the DSLR to take hiking). HH

Nice walk along the trail . Your right about the dry brush and stuff wouldn't want to be there if if caught fire would go up fast . Nice video , Good Job

Come to think of it, if that brush had gone up I probably wouldnt have been able to outrun it, and would have had to get in the river... Hmmm, not a fun thought.

I had no idea that your drought was that severe. I think it is neat the way that the State has turned the land back into wildlife refuge for the animals and birds. Thanks for sharing, very enjoyable viewing the slideshow. Kelley (Texas) :)
