<EM>"I went out yesterday when I got back from Buffalo, and went out with a great attitude, but not much. I think my confidence is shot. My buddy has the MXT and does consistently better then me. Should this be happening? He says he just turns on and goes, but keeps the discrimination wide open. I also am digging alot of high tones that seem very deep, but end up being pull tabs. I'm not paying much attention to the VDI numbers, just the tones. Alot of the slightest high beeps end up having nothing there when I dig them up. I really feel like I know quite a bit about operating the machine now (not a pro by any means, but not a beginner), but its gotten to the point where I don't go with my buddy, because he consistently shows me up. Of course, then there are the mine lab guys that are getting half dimes and bust dimes. I'm not as worried about them as I am that I know the machine is better then what I'm finding with it, but I don't know what to do next. Should I back down to pre amp 3? I seem to run it steady with 75 senstivity, and 4 pre amp. Maybe this is too strong with so many targets in the park? I know the mine lab guys are finding alot of stuff under trash. Will the 4 by 6 coil make a BIG difference. I seem to be doing worse then better. Is there anyone that is a pro that could help a guy out? I'm proud of my persistence, but I'm becoming so frustrated, that I'm not enjoying myself. The machine picks up so many targets, I'm going as slow as I can. The tone ID seems to work on coins in the 1 to 4 inch range, but all the deep targets in this park are 6 to 12 inches."</EM>

<EM>"Have you ever tried a single frequency set up ( either 3 or 15 ) with mixed mode and DC sens raised up to high 40's ( about 47 or 4:geek: ? Also, set the sweep speed to 1 and filters to 3 and if there is not much trash have a slower rec speed. I would stay at the preamp of 4 and run your AC sens as high as possible without suffering stability.
I don't use the tone id when in mixed mode but I may start to try...it's a little too 'busy' that way in trashy areas. Also, if it's real trashy, then mixed mode may not be the way to go since you will hear tons of the low tone beeps.
You should hit the deeper targets in mixed mode on the all metal side if the discrim side can't get to them. Dig all the signals and turn the visual discrim off so all the VDI's show and that will give you more info to work with. I always dig the deep signals regardless of VDI as long as the signagraph is not smeared, the lines are close together and the pinpoint sizing ends up small ( that is, the target after continued detuning by squeezing/releasing/squeesing pinpoint the target sizes small)
Good luck and keep having at it..I know I still learn from the DFX and sometimes I really do not want to fiddle around with different settings but that's what makes it great."</EM>

"What program are you using"
<span style="background-color:#ffff00;"><STRONG>Answer:</STRONG></span>
"I'm using your program, with 3 frequency, o hot rock, 3 filters, 1 bottle 1 sweep speed, 4 pre amp 75 sensitivity"

Man, am I glad I've got an MXT. I'm sure the DFX is a fine machine, but my life's too short for all that.
Good Hunting MXT, and DFX users,

The MXT and XL Pro are really the two models for most hobbyists. Knobbed controls, easy to operate, great performance.
