Another reason I like Sizing Pinpoint

In NORMAL Pinpoint mode, the width of the audio response will automatically be reduced with each pass of the coil, until there is only a very narrow response coming from the center of the coil. If you do this again from 90 degree angle, the target should be located at the X where these two paths intersect. Sounds good, doesn't it? Well it is good, if you do it right and understand what it is you are trying to accomplish. But there is a downside to Normal Pinpoint.......the downside to Normal Pinpoint and having the audio automatically be reduced is that, if you happen to raise the coil during the Pinpoint process, the target can disappear altogether. For those who doubt this, turn on your CTX 3030, set it up for Normal Pinpoint, hold the PP button and sweep a quarter under the coil at about 5 inches.....now reduce that distance to 4 inches......then to 2 inches........ Now, without releasing the PP button, move the coin back out to the 4 or 5 inch distance, sweep it back and forth across the coil and listen for what you won't hear. That is exactly what will happen in the field, if you lift your coil during the pinpoint process. Now try the same thing using SIZING Pinpoint

Good advice digger!

This is good to know as I've been having some problems with Normal Pinpointing. Thanks!

Yeah, I 'm definitely giving this a try. I already gouged some coins with the CTX because of the normal pinpointing. Good suggestion, I totally forgot about it.
