Another reason I like my Eldorado...

is the fact that in All Metal my Eldorado can pick up a CW buckle at 11". I have a repro plate buried in my test garden and I was playing around today and tried my Eldorado in All Metal and it can pick it up a with a clear signal, but cannot if I have any discrimination enabled. The Vaquero and Cibola can't be effectively hunted in All-Metal because its only a push button option and not a toggle, like on the Eldorado. My MXT is able to pick up the plate as well, but doesn't give a VDI readout. So, in All Metal the Eldorado is pretty much the equal of the MXT, just a lot lighter.

Actually the Vaquero can be hunted in all metal but....it is not nearly as convenient as the Eldorado. I have both the Eldorado and the Vaquero and the Eldorado, with it's ability to toggle between all metal and discrimination, is much easier to hunt with when all metal is the preferred mode. The all metal mode on the Vaquero is activated with the same dial as the discrimination mode as well as with the push button. This makes it ackward if you want to hunt in all metal then check against a discrimination setting. I guess you could preset the discrimination then hold the pushbutton down to hunt in all metal. I have actually done that for shot periods of time but I don't like it. So you're right, If one hunts much of the time in all metal the Eldorado is the better choice.

Good observations Canewrap, that illustrates what Monte says about the over use of discrimination. I have become use to using no discrimination in the discrimination mode. I use a combination of disc and all metal. It seems to have a different proximity effect with other objects not directly under the coil. Both have their advantages.

I don't think the all metal on the Cibola will pick up most objects as deep as the disc mode. I liked the button because it was the easiest and quickest way to go between the two modes. The button was so easy to hold down that it was never an issue with me.

My Euro Sabre has such good discrimination characteristics that I am spending less time in all metal mode. But it would be hard to be without. It is a needed tool for several uses.

Cheers,

I wired a toggle switch in place of the push button on a Siver Sabre umax so I can leave it in all metal when desired. Works fine, If I were to do it again I would probably just replace the push button with a push on, push off button. I'm sure this could be done on the Vaq or Cibola as well, but suggest having it done by someone handy at that sort of thing if one isn't comfortable doing things of that nature.

thats exacly the point most people do not realize you must have a good all metal mode or you have what is called a half baked machine
