Another Rainy Day With Bonus Finds:

Well-known member
Larry and I went to the rental property close by in-between rains. I was wanting to go there since 6:00 this morning. Finally the rains quit and we headed to the house. We both were working the yard and the owner came and chatted with us and wished us luck. At that time we hadn't found much at all except a piece of scrap now and then. Shortly afterwards I began to get a few good targets. Came across three wheats 1918-D, 1921 and 1939. About a foot away was another good signal. Turned out to be the 1918-D Merc. dime. Then about 3 feet away was another deeper signal and that was the 1866 Shield Nickel with Rays. :stretcher: Couldn't believe it! Right off the bat I saw it was a nickel in the hole and I was wishing for a Buffalo, but when I picked it up, I saw the shield and it blew my mind. After I put it in my water container, it started raining. I went over to where Larry was hunting and we started for the truck. All the targets were about 4-5 inches deep. We came home and I made sandwiches and it's still pouring down rain. We live less than a mile away from the rental, so if it stops raining, we'll go back again. I told Larry to "Pinch me." Glad I wasn't dreaming. So far we've taken 86 Wheat cents and MANY other keeper coins out of that yard. Thanks for looking and HH to all, Nancy

awesome!!!!! it is hard to believe you have found 86 wheats there..........amazing yard!!!!
congrats on the shield nickel

It's great to see the yard producing. I couldn't get out at all because of the rain. Keep researching and maybe I'll see you this fall. Rob

Nancy, you keep pushing the bar higher and higher for the rest of us. :clapping: Great job!

Great job Nancy!! I love to see what you found you get so excited and that's the way it should be!! Nice coins!!

Thanks JMorgan! I am still very excited about the nickel. Poor Larry will hear me talking about it when he's trying to go to sleep. :sleepy: :bouncy: Yes, that's me. I'm too excited to go to sleep. Thanks so much and HH to all, Nancy

Rob, I've been doing research. Not any "great" locations yet. But there's a lot of little "lost" towns. We'll come up with something. where we'll be able to find some older coins. Can' wait.
HH to all,
Nancy

Nice finds Nancy, WTG.

WTG, Nancy:clapping:

Do look forward to our hunt in a couple of weeks or so, eh?:twodetecting:

Superb outing....But you lost me "I saw the shield and it blew my mind. After I put it in my water container, it started raining. I ..." What am I missing, why did you put it (shield) in the water container???

Thanks/Cliff

Hi Cliff,

Nancy is saying something like ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz right now, so I'll answer for her. I will also have to answer to her for the prior comment come morning when she reads this too .. .........:stars:...........:stretcher:.............:surrender:

We carry 35MM film containers, "water container" with sudsy water to put our "keepers" in. Tempted as we are to rub the coins to see the date, we soak the dirt off to not scratch the coins, mostly for the silver. We got in the habit of putting all keepers in there, because they get special treatment when we get back home. (First to get cleaned)

:thumbup:Awesome finds as always Nancy, now you know the secret for you and your hubbie to find coins. You have to wait for the owner of the land to wish you luck. It really worked!!! Keep up the great :twodetecting: you guys do. I always say two is better than one. Have a great weekend! It is starting to rain here in Davis,CA. :clapping: Love the rain!!

Carrying the little 35 mm film canister with soapy water is a must when we go detecting in private property. It keeps the coins from being scratched.

BTW, Larry is still able to walk..................with a cane that is. Na, I'm glad he was able to post about the water container as to why we use them.

Thanks and HH to all, Nancy

Thanks for the tip, but the water would probably evaporate by the time I find my next silver.

Did find a merc dime the other day, though it wasn't via the MXT. Someone had put it in the change jar at work....

Go figure, the last silver quarter I rcv'd as change, and the last merc was in a change jar.....

But we keep on looking, and I'm going to start carrying one of those little film cases around. Never know when you might get lucky, and I will just have to resist the urge rubbing the dirt from the coin.

Thanks again/Cliff
