As Ive stated before, Ive used Whites machines, concentric coils, very easy pinpointing. Could some of you guys talk a bit on pinpointing with the Pro Coil, and other coils you may have. I have to say, I will probably purchase the 8x6 SEF also. And since I brought up coils, I will more than likely buy extra lower rods; are the lower rods difficult to change out?
Also, regarding the deeper targets, Ive read and cant recall where, some users state they hit a (for example) 8,9 inch silver dime and the audio on it would give them the impression it was 3 or 4 inches. Are these guys using the filter to amplify a weak deep signal??
Ok, thanks. Ive pretty much made my mind up to get an ETrac, I just gotta get thru this surgery and recoup first. So Im trying to learn and ask questions as I go.
Best regards,
John

I have and still use a Garrett GTI 2500 and pinpointing with it is very easy. I purchased the E-Trac in March and pinpointing with it was an easy transition with little or no problem. Actually to me the pinpointing comparison with the to are very similar. I have read that people may have problems going from a concentric coil to a DD in regards to pinpointing but as I stated with me it was not an issue. Throw some coins on the ground and to some tests in the yard or a test garden to get familiar with pinpointing before you go out in the field. But the more you dig in the field the more proficient you will get.

Sometimes with deeper targets I may be off center by an inch but most of the time I am relatively close. With the DD coil your target is identified in the center strip of the coil and there are different methods in pinpointing your target. You can wiggle your coil back and forth and turn 90 degrees and do the same to determine the location of the target. You can use the pinpoint button while doing so and listen to the tone and the pinpoint meter that shows your on target, the target will be at the coil-shaft attachment point.

Some use the push pull method, when you locate your target and pinpoint you can either push the coil forward or pull it back and just as the signal stops the target is in the notch on the front or rear of the coil.
As far as having a tone on a deep silver dime/coins this depends on your gain setting. Higher gain will make deeper targets sound off like shallow targets but you still have your depth indicator that is accurate. Some people like to keep the gain set a little lower so they get that silver whisper on deep targets to distinguish the difference by sound. I am not an expert on the operation of the E-Trac by no means and this is my first Minelab product. I just came back from vacation on the beach and detected 6 to 8 hours a day for 7 days and really was amazed at how deep I dug targets.

There are others here that are well versed in about any subject on the E-Trac and its settings but I have to tell you this is an excellent machine and I do not regret the purchase.

I am pretty new to the hobby. When I was changing coils in the field, I brought a coat hanger and 2lb braided fishing line. It was a pain in the arse. I bought the Sunray X1 probe and it solved a couple big problems for me. First one that I did not even think about until after I got the probe. The coil wire no longer is run up inside of the shaft, it wraps around it a couple times now and plugs in to the small Sunray control box. The other obvious thing is that I hardly ever dig a ghost hole now.

I am pretty much brand new to the hobby, but the X1 has helped me a LOT with pinpointing, I do my best to pinpoint with whatever coil I am using and then dig where I think it is. I always make mental note of where I originally pinpointed it and then where I actually found it using the probe.

I was having a hard time with pinpointing with the stock coil, so I would not go to the school or parks for fear of messing something up and giving myself a bad name since I am the only one I have seen in my town with a detector. The day after I got my probe I was at the local school detecting and actually recovering my targets. I cant say that I have found anything overly exciting, but I have the confidence now to pinpoint and actually dig knowing I will get what I am after. Its like using a big fancy pencil :)

I got my probe from detectordepot and I had it within just a few days, very good people.
