Another question or two for X owners.

Dirt Poor

New member
I've been digging for like 30 years or so, and being from the "old school"(but not always the best school), I have prefered to always hunt with the stock coils. Only extra coil I ever purchased was a 15" coil for my old Whites Spectrum. Talk about HEAVY. Anyway.....Mainly for relic hunting, and not changing coils, would a 50 be as good as the 70?, and would the stock coil on either machine suffice? Thanks

Depends on the type of soil you will be hunting in. The DD coils seem to work well in highly minerialized soils. I, for one, think that the DD also goes a little deeper. TomB

I have found lots of things with the 50 and really like it , I got the 70 because it will take 3khz coils , auto ground balance and auto noise cancel. I also kind of like the 99 tones already they are real clear. I have found lots of coins at hunted out spots with my 50 using stock coil and 6 inch dd. I just got my 70 last week off of classifieds. They are both good detectors there are also some members on here who use the 305 and like them alot they are cheaper and do a good job. Read the faq faq post at top of page that might help you decide . They all are good , they just all have different features. Hope you find the one you want. Happy hunting

Thank you, Tom and 7cents! I just found someone who has the X-70 package with the DD coil, too(2 coils total). He has the carrying bag, digging tool, and the whole package. A friend just told me about it and says it is used very little and in perfect shape for 500.00. I guess this is a good dea? Thanks again!!

Sounds like a decent deal. But I also see where one of our sponsoring dealers have a package onsale now for a brand new X-Terra 50 with both the 9-inch 7.5 kHz concentric AND the 5 X 10 Elliptical DD at 18.75, for under $550. Or they have the new X-Terra 505 with stock coil for the same price. For the additional features of the 505, I'd get it and keep my eyes peeled for deals on accessory coils.

Keep in mind that Minelab warranties are not transferrable. And the X-Terra comes with a 3 year warranty. I don't doubt your buddy's is in nice shape. But for a few bucks more than your buddy's used one, you could have a new detector with the full 3-year warranty. JMHO HH Randy

You said it and I was thinking it.

I am sure you will like the machine either way you go.

The X-Terra is a great machine. It is light and will find the goods. Good luck to you in finding one you want, Beale.
