I have noticed that some dealers will not buy everything if the initials engraved inside the item do not match your I.D. The reason for this is obvious of course, they do not want to take anything that could conceivably be identified as stolen. Still, how do those of you who have found engraved items handle this? Is there a way to remove the engraving or is this a case when it is just easier to send it to a refinery? Assuming that they don't require some form of I.D. as well. Also, does it pay to have a formal appraisal on some items if they contain stones or are exeptional pieces?
