Another question about DD vs. concentric coils

I can now understand how the narrow beam of the DD coil can help in trashy areas but.... at the same time aren't you picking up more trash from the front to the rear of the coil because you are getting maximum depth from front to back as opposed to a concentric coil having a smaller beam all around the deeper it penetrates?
