Got up at the crack of light and headed south to another pounded to death park. Took about one and a half hours to get there, but the traffic was light and listening to my oldies and a cup of coffee in hand I was there in no time. I decided to hunt a spot that I never detected before and right off the bat I got a 55 wheatie. Next target after a little bit of clad out pops a 52 rosie. I'm thinking how the heck did this one get missed after probably 40 plus years of this park being heavily pounded. That's ok though cause we all know that some places are never completely hunted out. Got some more clad and those pesky deep memorial pennies that sound good not to mention those Canadian pennies. Dug a few rusty nails and figure the next guy behind me won't be waisting his time digging them. Got a sweet silver sound and got two mercs out of the same hole. One was a 16 and the other one was a 25. My heart was pumping when I saw the date on that 1916, but it settled down when I found no mint mark. I also got an old Seattle transit token and a 1902 Indian, a 1914 buff and a 1900 V-nickle. I gave my repaired XS a pretty good workout not to mention myself for almost six hours and she seemed to work just fine with no problems. I just hope the problems that I was having with it before don't come back. All and all it was a good day of detecting and it was just nice to get out for a good days workout. The best part of my day was when this one fellow came up to me and we had a good chat for about a half an hour. I think he said he was 58 years old with a lot of health problems and dying of lung cancer. He was telling me about this old place that he and his wife bought that they are fixing up that was built back in the early 1900's. Guess he has been doing a lot of yard work and digging up all kinds of old dishes, some whole and others just bits and pieces. He tore down a old shed on the property and under the floor boards he said he found and threw away hundreds of old whiskey bottles. Sorry for rattling on, but here comes the good part. He was digging some holes to plant some fruit trees and dug up pieces of an old jar and a beautiful 1908s five dollar gold coin. He did some more digging, but never found anymore gold coins. He gave me his name and phone number and we are planning on getting together real soon and see if there might be anymore coins around that place.Talk about a chance of a life time to be able to detect an old place with the chance of digging up a gold coin and who knows what else. He jokingly said that I had to split with him anything that I found and I said that seems fair to me. One more thing and then I will shut up. He also has a couple of gold claims that he has been working for the last three years and even invited me to come down and help him out and do some panning. Is that cool or what!!!!!! Thanks for looking and as always HH to you all.
