Another pounded to death park hunt Sat.:clapping:

Got up at the crack of light and headed south to another pounded to death park. Took about one and a half hours to get there, but the traffic was light and listening to my oldies and a cup of coffee in hand I was there in no time. I decided to hunt a spot that I never detected before and right off the bat I got a 55 wheatie. Next target after a little bit of clad out pops a 52 rosie.:clapping: I'm thinking how the heck did this one get missed after probably 40 plus years of this park being heavily pounded. That's ok though cause we all know that some places are never completely hunted out. Got some more clad and those pesky deep memorial pennies that sound good not to mention those Canadian pennies. Dug a few rusty nails and figure the next guy behind me won't be waisting his time digging them. Got a sweet silver sound and got two mercs out of the same hole.:super: One was a 16 and the other one was a 25. My heart was pumping when I saw the date on that 1916, but it settled down when I found no mint mark. I also got an old Seattle transit token and a 1902 Indian, a 1914 buff and a 1900 V-nickle. I gave my repaired XS a pretty good workout not to mention myself for almost six hours and she seemed to work just fine with no problems. I just hope the problems that I was having with it before don't come back. All and all it was a good day of detecting and it was just nice to get out for a good days workout. The best part of my day was when this one fellow came up to me and we had a good chat for about a half an hour. I think he said he was 58 years old with a lot of health problems and dying of lung cancer. He was telling me about this old place that he and his wife bought that they are fixing up that was built back in the early 1900's. Guess he has been doing a lot of yard work and digging up all kinds of old dishes, some whole and others just bits and pieces. He tore down a old shed on the property and under the floor boards he said he found and threw away hundreds of old whiskey bottles. Sorry for rattling on, but here comes the good part. He was digging some holes to plant some fruit trees and dug up pieces of an old jar and a beautiful 1908s five dollar gold coin.:super: He did some more digging, but never found anymore gold coins. He gave me his name and phone number and we are planning on getting together real soon and see if there might be anymore coins around that place.Talk about a chance of a life time to be able to detect an old place with the chance of digging up a gold coin and who knows what else.:super: He jokingly said that I had to split with him anything that I found and I said that seems fair to me.:clapping: One more thing and then I will shut up. He also has a couple of gold claims that he has been working for the last three years and even invited me to come down and help him out and do some panning. Is that cool or what!!!!!! Thanks for looking and as always HH to you all.

Great story Eddie I really like stories that almost put the detector in my own hands. Great Finds to keep them coming.HH and Good Luck. Josh

It's always nice to post a good story and have replies from the good fellows on this forum. This is by far my best story especially one where I had a chat with a stranger who was nice enough to share his story with me and then even nicer for him to invite me down to his place to do some detecting and gold panning to boot. These chances don't come around very often and I can't wait to meet up with him and I will let you all know how it turns out. Thanks again and HH.

It would definetly be a spot I would revisit for sure if there were that many Silver's showing up. Great story as well. Hope your problems are behind you with the XS and Good Luck and HH to you on your next hunt.

Darn Minelab. Eddie...I paid a tech at Minelab some big dollars to send your XS back to you so the sensitivity wouldn't go above 3. Obviously I should have saved my money. I hate to say it because it hurts me but, nice piece of work fella. jim

Great finds Eddie. Did you go by yourself or was it a club outing? I've been doing a lot of beach hunting lately but I need to hit the turf soon to get my old silver fix.

I have an XS and having problems seems to turn off by itself. I sent it back for repair and doing the same thing now. I have not found much of anything I use mostly presets with a little iron mask Whats your secret?

Sorry to hear that your XS is having some problems like mine was. How long have you had it back from repair? There seems to be a lot of other fellows with the XS's that are having the same problems and it really gets frustrating when you send it in for repair to Minelab and then it starts having the same problems again. They do the bench tests to make sure it works, but being out in the field seems to tell the story as to whether or not your machine will perform like it's suppose to. You will find coins using the factory presets, but tweaking the settings will help and of course you have to be in a spot where there is going to be some old stuff to dig up. I use these settings most of the time. Limits 10, Gain 10, Variability 10, Sounds Conduct, Volume 10, Response Normal, and Iron Mask set at -10. No Pattern. Sensitivity set at 22 semi-auto and will crank it up to 26 as long as my detector stays steady. I use fast on in trashy sites, but otherwise I have both fast and deep off. If you have your gain at 10 it's basically the same as having deep on. Always do a noise cancel and take your time going slow with your coil barely brushing the ground and overlap your swings by at least 50%. Hope this helps and Lol with your problem and HH.

Thanks GR. Is there such a thing as a park being pounded out.:bouncy: Just when you think start thinking that, out pops a nice coin from time to time. HH.

Eddie

I went by myself. Asked Lee to go, but he didn't want to tick his wife off after being gone the last four weekends in a row. Like they say, snooze you lose. Good luck on your beach hunting and look forward to seeing your silver fix on the forum. HH.

Eddie

Thanks Jim. I told Minelab not to take a check from you cause it would bounce. Tell me where it hurts and I'll see what I can do. Lol and HH.

Eddie

Thanks James. I'm sure I'll hit that park at least one more time, but my next trip down that way will be to hook up with that fellow I was talking about in my story and wouldn't it be cool to post a gold coin on the forum.:clapping: I hope my XS keeps on working from now on, but only time will tell. Good luck to you as well. HH.

Eddie

Thanks Bruce. I guess luck does have a lot to do with finding some old coins now and then. Sad thing is that the old stuff doesn't get replenished and when there gone there gone. HH.
