OK... so I have GB 100% CW DISC 100% CCW and Sens in the 10AM-NOON range...

Couple of questions... As you can see from my Pict... I'm not doing to well... If the signal hops around... Don't dig?

I am starting in DISC mode... then switching to AutoNotch mode, then all metal to Pinpoint...

I dug down and pulled up an entertube with value that registered as a dime.... *sigh* ...

Oh yeah... what is the large buckle looking thing??

Search in discrimination mode until u get a signal, then go to all-metal to pinpoint...not auto notch,
auto notch is a preset mode for just finding coins and some jewelry....like an advanced search,
but you will lose some good targets.

About the only time I use AutoNotch is in parks and playgrounds when I get eat up with pull tabs. Autonotch will eliminate most of those but like has been mention will notch out some good stuff too.

That big buckle looking thing loks more like a horse shoe, but I see no holes in it for nails...very interesting...Also looks like a piece of scrap from a punch press....
Also if I may ask...Where are you hunting??? Looks maybe like a open field....Try the parks or tot lots to get into the coinage and possible jewelry...

1650s...Wow!!!...Wonder if they had closed back horse shoes??? I am not very up on artifacts and farm equipment, even though I lived on a small farm as a Foster Child when I was like 7-10 years old...I miss those days...Wild and Free...Looks like a Draft Horse shoe that someone never finished...??? :surrender:

P.S. I know!!! It is an iron toilet seat for kids!!!...:yikes:

Also, I have seen that black diamond pin before when I was in the Army...I think it is a Cadet's rank pin or some such...Maybe the center of a Master Sergent's pin..

Hi, new to these forums. Old hat at detecting. Looks like you're still picking up a lot of iron. That horse shoe looking thing probably put up a heck of a signal. Was it really deep? Not sure which model your using but on the Tracker IV I run tone mode with Sensitivity at max or close and Discrimination at about 8-9 o'clock. That gets rid of iron for me, but still puts me in foil (and gold) range. The only iron I hit are the very large targets.

When I get a tone that could be iron I start lifting the coil further and further from the ground while sweeping the target. If I'm still getting a strong signal when the coil is several inches from the ground I'll dig just a few inches to see if it's a large coin or something good close to the surface, otherwise I let it go. I pulled up a lot of iron getting to know the BH tones.

However, as a disclaimer, I'm not relic hunting. 99% of the large iron around here comes from industrial and shipping sources. Basically garbage. If I was hunting a 1650 farm site, I'd probably dig everything. Happy hunting! I can guarantee with more practice you'll nail what the machine is telling you.
