Another Pedlar's tag

John in Edmonton posted this tag a few days ago. Coincidentally, Bob S. dug another in Ontario yesterday, slightly different (posted for comparison).
Same stamped letter style and red paint evident. Differences in the wording yield a couple more clues:
John's... Pedlar 2-1/2 LES Canada
Bob's... Pedlar's 2-1/2 LBS Oshawa Canada
The initials LBS (pounds) are very obvious on Bob's (though they don't show so well in the scan). It looks like "LES" is a mis-strike on John's tag.
Bob's was found near the site of a military barracks that was used throughout the last century.
I'm wondering if this is a tag that was used with wire to secure the top of a sack of onions or potatoes or the like...

The pic of John's tag just disappeared in the link I just posted and in his original message... <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug">
House cleaning tonight?

another snippet:
>>>Pedlar People switched to wartime production. Pedlar built a new wing on their building and switched to a twenty-four hour operation producing products like munitions to meet wartime demand. <<<
Maybe there is a link to the military barracks? John, anything to add from your end?

Hi Guys. I've talked to a fellow that belongs to a Military Group, he told me the 21/2 lbs was a shell from a field gun. The RED signifies artillary, and each shell had a tag, which was cut-off by the loader. His estimate is W.W.1 for a shell this small. Apparently pre-W.W.1 they had a 19 pounder cannon, with similar metal tags on the munitions<FONT COLOR="#ff0000"></FONT>
