Another "Otter-Ace" (Ace 150 converted to wading)

This is a shameless copy of the rig that BCD invented and used to good effect last summer.

The 'guts' are enclosed in an "Otter-Box" 3500 and the holes are sealed with silicone.

The only hard part was lengthening the coil cable, though I'm told that Garrett can do this for you, for a fee, if you send them the coil.

I've been meaning to do something like that with a Tesoro uMax unit. Was going to use a Pelican case, but am not so sure now. I used the case I purchased to hold some cash et. al. the last time I went water hunting, and it leaked. Can't find any depth specs on the Pelicans... do you know what depth the Otter is rated to?

Not too sure how deep the Otters are rated to. Maybe try their web-site?

I just use mine for wading, so 'how deep' really isn't an issue for my type of hunting, main thing is I can safely just drop my machine while recovering the target and the electronics are well-protected.

I am, however, in the process of converting a Tesoro Sidewinder into a diving rig. I'm using an otter-box 2500 (smaller version) and sheet lead to counteract the buoyancy issue.

I'll be snorkeling with the sidewinder and won't get any deeper than maybe 12' with it. I believe they are rated quite a bit deeper but don't remember how deep.

The Otter should be good to 100'

Thanks for the info! That's plenty deep for my uses, but the 'headroom' never hurts. I'll be looking for an Otter. Will let folks know how things turn out... ;-)
