I have an Etrac waiting for me in California when I get there in a couple of weeks. I have a SE Pro and had an Explorer II. I am in the Philippines and I am leaving the SE Pro there and will use the Etrac in USA the summer months. How is the learning curve from the SE Pro to the Etrac? Since have experience with Minelab was hoping a quick learning curve. I just need to learn the difference in Iron Mask I believe. Any other suggestions?

Thanks everyone and I hope to be posting to this forum with some great finds as I have been doing on the Explorer Forum!!

Rick

Raw,

The E-trac is so smooth running I kept thinking it was broke or not working correctly, heck I would even shake it to get a sound out of it. It is smooth as silk. Its the mercedes of Minelab!

Hahaha, I thought I was the only one that did that!

I think you will do well with etrac. All you will need to do is get your silver sounding tone the way you want it.

Just swing a little slower than you would most other detectors and dig everything for at least a good 10 hours worth of detecting. I read back about 20 pages of threads and tried all the tricks and tips that people had given. Like everyone will agree you cant go by the numbers alone. I use the Numbers frequently to determine the probability of an item being trash or a valuable target. It takes a little time but is a great machine. It treats me good. I paid for mine with finds about 3 months in to using it. Idigid

Heck, mine doesn't even make a sound when I shake it, but I know what you mean! LOL The discrimination is the best you could possibly hope for!

Practice finding coins at a fairly clean park to learn the machine. Load the factory coin program then go into quickmask and disc out FE 23 and higher, and press the button with a detector on it, to load it into the program, then save that program. Dig only targets the have an FE of 12ish or lower. Also at least at first just concentrate on digging coins, CO numbers of 13, and 41-47. I would dig a bunch of other targets like Zincolns CO 35-37, and ones that are CO 05 through 34, that you feel good about, so that your beginner luck can shine through and find you something gold or something just plain cool, but limit those frustrating numbers. You don't have to dig every 35 or 15 until you decide that you have to find something gold at all costs, that might be too frustrating starting out.

People buy an E-Trac so that they can find Seated coins at old sites scattered with nails, but learn the machine first at a tamer site, so you won't get too frustrated with the new machine!

It is always good to hunt your own yard at first, too.
