another MXT find

Went out last week with my trusty MXT to check out a recently mowed hay field. Not much there-a few rusty cut nails, pieces of cast iron plows, etc. Then I hit a target that registered in the low 80"s and it was deep. This one got my attention!!! After some hard digging in rocky soil, out came this waist belt plate(???) As you can see, it's badly bent, but it appears to have a large central star with an A.,V., and C. around the top three points of the star. I'm wondering if it's an early Alabama Volunteer Corps militia plate??? It was dug here in central Virginia, but not near any battles--just old farmland--found on private land with owner's permission. If anyone could positively identify it for me, or give me any idea to its rarity (or lack thereof), I would certainly appreciate it! Also, if you know of a good professional restorer of this sort of thing, I would be obliged. Many thanks, Jack.

Very similar to this Texas plate but no AVC. However this one is a reproduction, so who knows? Looks like it has been hit with the plow but none the less, great find.

If it is genuine it could be worth some big $$$$, let the restorer do all the work. Nice find. Relics are where you find em. HH. Bob.

That's an oldie! That's a super find and I hope you can find out about it. If you get any information on it, please share. Thanks and HH to all, Nancy
