This little bird is a 'rescue' we made yesterday. My son in Saginaw called and said he was helping his landlord do an eviction. The police officer on scene did not want to set the bird out to the street in the cold with the rest of the possessions of the evicted former occupant so the officer asked if Tom could take him. He is unable to take pets and with his landlord there is it hard to take the bird and keep it anyway. Tom knows we have lots of birds and would probably rescue this little bird. He of course is right. I talked to the officer and told him we were on the way which eased his mind.
The poor bird was living in a poor excuse of a cage, hadn't been feed fresh food or fresh water in a couple days. We think he/she might have had a mate that didn't survive the conditions. He/she is here now and doing good though still not out of the woods. We think it is a baby (Lovebird). Very agressive for one so small so thinking it was not treated very nicely either. We know nothing of the environment he was in - don't know if the owner was a smoker or not. We will work with the little bird and do what we can to get it healthy and better adjusted and if it doesn't survive we will know its last days or weeks were good ones.
I gave the bird the name Vic (if a male bird Vic is a good boy name and if a girl Victoria). The name Vic came to me because he came to us because he was eVicted from his home.
Though the last thing we need is another Lovebird around here asking for prayers for the little bird to get healthy and less agressive. Have to use a pair of neoprene divers gloves to pick him up to keep him from chomping into my skin and making me bleed. Hoping in time we can handle him without gloves like our other birds.
Sure a long drive to Saginaw and back but worth doing what is right for one of God's helpless creatures.
