Rained all night, windy, waves from the SW driving a furious longshore rip...got out and into this place predawn..[attachment 313194 may15-15-2.jpg]
Heres an interesting pic for some scale of the size of this washout, from where I took this pic, last year I would be standing on beach with 3' of sand under my feet and another 20' of it behind me!....As you can see, these huge washouts go for miles all along the coast...it is immensely hard duty wearing waders to walk so far..nearly warm enough for my 3mil wetsuit though.....[attachment 313195 may15-15-1.jpg]
Hitting targets up on the slope in the black sand and out into the water, a guy has to head into the wind and hunt the slope and then get into the water and come back hunting the ripple and trough with the rip at your back...theres no way to swing a coil without using the current/ waves to assist, a fellow learns this quickly, cant fight the water...eyeballed this interesting Indian Artifact! I believe it was a fletching tool, or perhaps some sort of device to dig the brains out of squirrels?[attachment 313196 may15-15-3.jpg]
Heres the take...one Canadian nickel that sounded like silver?, and one Canadian Q that sounded like a rusty bottlecap..it was a short hunt but I was worn out! the rip current and waves take a lot out of a guy...I should be out all day in this overcast and wind though...unbelievably, still NO gold for me yet this year! A guy cant ignore these big washouts though.. .[attachment 313197 may15-15.jpg]
