Another hour and a half.......

.....phartin' around the local schoolyard with the Ace 150 and 4.5 Sniper this afternoon. I'm learning real quick that this little machine doesn't lie to you. If there is even the slightest hesitation on it's part when sweeping over a signal, you can bet with about 99 percent assurance that it's trash. Rings vs. pulltabs, even the cheap kiddy aluminum rings, give a distinctly different signal, but the little machine lets you know they are "good" in comparison to most of the pull-tabs. Something about the more rounded shape of the rings I would guess, but whatever it is, the Ace seems to know the difference. Ditto the nickels vs. tabs. Today dug a nickel that I could tell was a nickel, but the signal was very strange, almost "fuzzy" sounding at the edges, but a good strong nickel lock. Ended up being a nickel and pull-tab together in the same hole.

Nothing to really get excited about today, other than the great performance of the machine itself. 44 total coins, and the first Sac Dollar I have found in awhile, and those magnets in the upper right corner proved to be......ummmmmm......"interesting". Took me about 5 minutes to find the first one. Signal kept disappearing, re-appearing, disappearing, re-appearing.......until I figured out what it was, and that about every other scoop from the hole, the magnet was sticking or releasing itself from my steel digger.

Rings are just kiddy stuff, but numbers 3 and 4 for only the second time out with the 150. Guess I need to start hunting more around the "big kid" lots. Not too many elementary kids wearing gold around these parts.......

Broke down and ordered the 250 this afternoon too. Should be interesting to compare the two with the same coils on each.

Hi Ralph,
I liked your "Stop The Wobble" post. Looks like a winner to me. I can't figure out where you found the tubing head bolts and reinforced plastic wing nuts. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Larry

Hi Larry,

I picked those up at the specialty area in hardware at Lowes Home Center. If I remember right, the bolts are 3/16 x 20-thread x 1.5 inches. The wingnuts were in the same display tray with the bolts, about $1.50 per each piece.

You got money and rings....a ring is a ring is a ring is a ring. Always a great addition to your collection. :)

That would be interesting to see how they compare.
My first gut instinct was to think they are actually
pretty close, except fot the extra ID's, and the pinpointer.
I guess we'll see before too long...:/

...and some interesting observations. I have never found a magnet, although I have one in my sand scoop and I carry one in my bag for ID'ing ferrous soils, etc.

More rings are always nice, too.

You just couldn't resist it huh Ralph? :) You'll like the 250. Has a few more goodies to play with. You'll learn to love the little bugger. Next you'll need the 12-inch coil to complete the ensemble.
