hi all,
first of all, i can't seem to get the belltone when in all metal mode.
secondly, i am curious as to how deep you 2500 users have found coins when in the disc. modes. i mean, can the 2500 find, say, dimes at 10"? i've heard of DFX and Explorer users that find coins at that depth, but i am wondering if the 2500 is up there with them. and, are coin hits 8" and deeper solid four-way bangers? i know this varies due to many conditions. i am planning on upgrading my 550 and would like to stay with garrett.

Depending on your soil conditions the 2500 will go as deep as you want to dig. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

I hate to contradict; I've had my GTI2500 for 3 years and mine does NOT belltone in the All Metal Mode. That's a mode in which the machine is constantly sounding out the signals reflected by objects in the ground.
When you get a coin or some object with sharp edges, the machine snaps on loud until the end of the object is reached, then it snaps off.
That's as opposed to other "mushy" targets -- maybe mineralization.
When you're in disk mode, the electronic brain thinks about the target and reports them all with three possible signals -- low for iron, mid-tone for middle conducting objects, and bell tone for pennys and above.
AMM doesn't interpret; what you hear is what the machine sees.
It CAN give size and depth as in the disk mode -- if that's set.
But you've got to look at the screen if you want to know the ID, size, and depth.
 
Great detector but if it is wired the same as the 1500 in Disc. mode I don't believe it would hit a dime in my soil that deep. (and my soil is pretty good) Bigger coins I would say yes but not a dime.
 
looking to up grade from my 550, what do you think about the 2500 across the board
 
That's quite a jump but it's about the best there is out there. You'll never look back.

Yeah a long time ago. Haven't been to the beach in ages. It works fine if you keep the sensitivity low and stay away from the line between wet and dry sand. Our beaches here are mineralized in places and some contain black sand.
