Another GoldBug 2

I just purchased a good LNIB older style Goldbug 2 last weekend for 500.00, which seems about right, according to some of the posts here. Today I noticed another one, same style and everything going for 350.00, of course a day late and a dollar short now...anyway, would it be in my best interests to pick up this other one for a spare. I am just getting into the prospecting end of metal detecting but do have alot experiance coin and relic hunting. Both detectors have 10 inch coils. By some of the posts on here it looks like the Goldbug 2's days maybe numbered. Should I wait and see if I like using the 1st one and spend the money somewhere else like a smaller coil ? or pick up the other for a spare. I just wanted to know what you would do given the uncertainty of the future of the GB2. Thanks.

Detectors are kinda like guns to me...each has their own specific use. I don't think one can ever have too many detectors....:twodetecting::detecting::twodetecting:

Everybody has their favorites and i already have a gold bug 2 and really like it as my first choice.... If i got a second VLF detector it would be the Whites GMT which is another gold only detector..... two gold bug 2's in my arsenal would not disappoint me one bit though

You can always get it and see which you like best and sell the other :clapping: A good GB2 almost always gets $500 from what I've seen. Being the gold standard for gold and the only 71mHz going I would think there will be a market for some time. I spent my hard cash on a GBPro so what do I know?

[size=large]Big Questions, or at least long ones. Is the warranty on the GB2 transferable? I can not find any info on what the warranty is. Even on their web site.
Normally one can readily find a used detector of any brand. I've been looking and can not find a used GB2. I see by a previous posting there are some out there. I use the various ads to measure how good a machine is. not many for sale indicates to me a good machine. This machine looks to be one of if not the best VLR for Gold Hunting. IS THIS A FAIR ASSUMPTION? I'm looking to be able to hunt in the Cal. mother lode country and am looking into as good a machine [ VLR ] as i can find. so far it's a toss up between the GMT or the GB2. looking for experienced advise.

Widebody; The GB2,s warranty is for five years, but only for the original owner, and requires a proof of purchase .

The original Gold Bug was I first true "gold " detector if memory serves me right, it was never intended

to be a coin or relic machine, and as such has been proven to be one of the best that has been produced.

But like anything made and sold, new technology has encroached on it's area, how ever, no one that has one

should feel they are using something inferior. True it will not punch as deep as a PI or even most of the vlf

machines but if you keep in mind that there is FAR more very small gold to find than there is large nuggets

it still stands tall and won't have to hang it's head ( coil ? ) in shame. It works like it was designed to with

very few problems. Pick your areas to hunt small gold with care and it will reward you if indeed there is

any gold there to be found. And yes I own a GB2, I also own several other machines including a big

MineLab with seven different size coils to hunt deep and large. Different machines for different jobs !

I do not own an original Gold Bug, but someday I will find one at the right price and I will then, in the

mean time I have others to fill in the gaps that it cannot. As to the price of a used one, like anything

for sale, you never know until you own it and use it and only then. If one has been taken care of like

it should have been it should still be a find machine to be proud to own.

[size=large]thanks D-Tex, as for a Pi machine. they go down farther than i can dig. i have done enough research, i feel, to make the choice between the GB2 or the GMT. my health won't let me get too excited or ambitious. my son on the other hand is living in mother-lode country and has sent pictures of a week-end find that looks very promising. and it's on private land. a interesting point he was telling me was that one needs to be very careful about anouncing findings even on private property as you may own the property but someone else can be owning the mineral rights. something to check on before you brag or buy.
