I just achieved another milestone, another first. I found my first half dollar today, a 1977 D JFK. At first I thought I was getting a false signal because in the past most of the time when the Pioneer 505 sounded off and indicated 50 cents the signal would jump around between that, a dime, quarter and dollar and it was an aluminum can on end. This time it was different. It indicated a consistant 50 cents at 6 inches. So I dug it and got a pleasant surprise, my first half dollar. So far since I started using my Pioneer 505 this year, I've found nearly 600 coins with my 505 and this is the first half dollar coin found. How does this compare to your find ratios as far as the different denomintions found? (And I thought nickels were hard to find!)
Halfs are a rare find!
...even the guys that have hunted for 20+years rarely find a half...the ones that kept records of their finds, seems the most elusive is the Ben Franklin half. .those old silver hunters find Barber Halfs, in old dirt...but for some reason the BFhalf is just one tough find probably since the dates of its issue...sort of place it in the New dirt/Old dirt mix... .
