The wife let me swing a bit more in the yard today. After finding that III cent piece I had the itch.. I was able to find another first for me. An 1868 Shield Nickel! It has been a great week so far!!
I hope to get out again tomorrow for a bit (that is if I get caught up on yard work).

Very cool! You have a great peice of property there. I'm really diggin the pic's you are posting. Can't wait to see you bust out a silver dollar or some really nice gold. HH!

By the look of the trash recovered you are doing it right. Many good items could read out as trash or be masked by trash. Go slow and recover all the signals. Next spring should produce many targets with the ground moisture and easier digging. You have many years of happy hunting this location, enjoy.

I LOVE to see those old nickels and specially the shield nickel. Way to go Neal. Did you say the next club hunt was going to be in your back yard? Hey, great find and I love seeing your finds.

That is the nicest dug Shield nic's I ever saw Neil........ congratulations.

Congrats on your first shield nickel. I have to agree with Larry, that is one of the finest dug shield nickels I have seen.

The unfortunate thing about my lawn is the dirt has been moved around quite a bit (before I owned the propery). It is loaded with square nails and trash (they must have burned and buried everything). So I have to work it slow as heck in TTF and work it with my 8x6 and 6" coil.. Every now and again I find a goodie. This one was probably no more than 4" down. Its funny to think how many times you have driven over something with your tractor when you pull things from your own property.
