Here is my finds from last nite. I started on a new field site that was gone before 1914. Indians are 1874, 1875, and 1891. The lock has a pat date 4.4.93. So pretty much has to be 1893. Corn stalks here are tall and bent down everywhere it's a mess and gonna take long time to cover this site. Will def have to hit it next year when it's a bean field so I can get all the stuff I missed because of the stalks.

I'm curious...I haven't hunted any open fields yet. Do you find the coins you find in to be in worse shape in fields because #1 I would think a lot of them are hit by farm equipment and #2 chemicals used in the fields may have an adverse effect on coins?

farm fertilizer plays havoc on copper coins, it doesn't seem to effect silver..........at least the ones I have found in the past!

Most of the silver I have pulled out of fields is in nice shape. Almost all the Indians and other copper coins come out in rough shape. Too bad, as I love digging Injuns.
