another excal straight shaft question

I have seen the electronics placed at forearm level and above the elbow on the straight shaft configurations. whats the the dif, and is one better than the other? help me please Thank You and HH

Don't know about "above the elbow" , but controls placed at forearm level greatly balances the whole setup. Seems that if you got the controls and pod too far up the shaft you would constantly have to put down pressure on the coil with your wrist. That would be a pain under water.

I use the "above the elbow" shaft and it balances perfectly. The grip can be moved up and down the shaft for perfect balance. I have the eight inch coil but I've also tried the shaft with the ten inch coil and it also balances well. The shaft has a strap on the arm cup so downward pressure is not necessary. ~John

I have now tried all 4 excalibur 1000 setups my opinions are as follows:
1) stock shaft-unballanced and awkward
2) hip mount-used with stock shaft and straight shaft I think the coil is heavy but works better than stock shaft rig
3) straight shaft with electronics at elbow-nice ballance it feels like the coil wants to rise a little bit.
4) straight shaft with electronics above elbow-I like it the set up I made appears to be in perfect ballance the coils stays close to ground with no effort and is very comfortable.
No matter how you set up the excal its heavy but I do like the straight shaft with the electronics above the elbow. The one I am using now is a total length of 61 inches very long but feels good

I played with one at our club picnic a couple of weeks ago. I didn't actually detect with it but it did not feel as light and well balanced. Either one of these shafts are an improvement over the stock setup. ~John

the 3rd one I mentioned was the foearm style it felt good and fairly ballanced but I like the longer one better please keep in mind this is all just my opinion i'm not a professional

evening!! where are you picking up the hanlebar ends from? and what model are they? thanks:tank

Thanks guys for setting me straight on the Excal straight shaft! Will call Bill on mon and order same. Been on usual 4 month winter retreat (retirement is bliss). Hawaii for the past month using my Excal and when my arm fell off, my DFX on the beach. Excal weapon of choice and have two full 750ml purple Crown bags to prove it-maybe 14#'s of coins and jewelry. Surf was tough with high waves and big undertow most every day. Will try to enclose photo of one of beaches I hunted-really,no joke! See few posts on Hawaii or Cabo beaches that I hunt. Must be some of you that travel everywhere with your machine as I do. SS scoop goes in golf bag, before sticks! Good hunting!

Hi Guys! Thanks for the skinny on straight shafts! Been away from computer for past four months on winter retreat (retirement is bliss). Last 30 days in Hawaii where my arm fell off using my stock Excal, so had to revert to my DFX and dry sand. Excal is weapon of choice but good for 2 hrs at most before heavy forearm pain, as you know. Add high/heavy surf, water resistance on sweep and undertow and really tough on old body. More coins in surf than on beach me thinks, not so much to hunting pressure but large surf 24/7 scouring beaches all winter and quick dropoffs to about 4' deep. Rewards good as this trip netted two full 750ml purple Crown Bags of goodies, maybe 15#s or so, mostly coins but several good rings and WWII vintage silver (plus amply use of puplr bag linament). SS scoop gets priority in my golf bag before sticks!
Will call Mr Bill mon and stop the pain! Good Hunting all!
