Another duel with the Outlaw

Firstly, I need to correct something from my first post on the Outlaw....the audio tone is a lower frequency than on my Eldorado, a fact that I only recognised on this last weekend when I used them both, one after the other. I find either of the tones easy to listen to, and to interpret. I have the high toned Cibola, so cannot compare the Outlaw to the low-toned Cibola.

On Saturday I took the Outlaw to a spot that I have hunted recently with my DeLeon. I initially had the sensitivity on 5, but shortly after I started, I raised it to 7. I ground balanced the Outlaw, using the switch...it is a very simple operation to ground balance the machine, and simple to check regularly that it is still in balance with changing soil patterns. I started finding coins, and found several in a small area. None of them were very deep, some between 1 and 2 inches, and some 2 to 4 inches. The deepest target I dug was an aluminium bottle top, and it was about 5-6 inches. The signal for this target was still strong and definite, so if it had been a coin or ring I would have dug it. I found a fair bit of "can-slaw" most of it shallow. These pieces of aluminium gave of signals very similar to coins if the pieces were coin size (that is, to my ears using my very ordinary headphones and with my sub par hearing).

I also found, that with the higher sensitivity level, I needed to be careful with relation to targets near the surface. Like other machines that I have, the Outlaw let me know the target was there, but the signal was either a double blip or it was very clipped. Raising the coil slightly and then scanning gave me a more identifiable signal.

I detected a sand pit that people jump into, and found a number of coins, some were 6 to 8 inches deep, and I was still getting good signals on those.

I started using the retune button, to pinpoint and "size" targets, and what a delight it was, not to have to flick a switch to perform this function. It is a time-saver, and a good addition to this detector.

This weekend I used only the 8" round concentric coil, and it is a great coil for pinpointing in disc mode. I mainly went into all-metal for sizing of targets.

After about two and a half hours I went home with twenty coins for $10.30. I wont go into all the denominations I found, but I did find 6x10c (our 10c gives basically the same signal as the US 5c) and 2x5c, (our 5c is in the foil range).

Sunday's hunt (2 hours) took me to a local park which is regularly detected, but I still managed 13 coins for $13.30, a junk ring and a junk earring. Again the deepest target I dug was a alum. bottle cap, which was down over 6 inches, but still gave a very healthy signal. I probably would have written it off, but my pro pointer picked it up when the hole was 4-5 inches deep, so I knew the target was within a couple of inches, and kept going.

In both the hunts, the only target on the surface was one of the 5c coins I found on Saturday, all other targets were below ground level.

After using the Outlaw on the Sunday, I took the Eldorado to a spot near where I had been using the Outlaw last week. I have to say that it took me a few minutes to get used to the Eldorado after just detecting with the Outlaw.
But it wasn't long before the Eldorado began to answer the call, and I netted 8 coins for $14.

I'm not in a position to say that anyone ought to buy the Outlaw, and what it could do for you.

I can, however tell you why I will be getting one. When I purchased my Eldorado, I was actually hoping to buy a Bandido II (u max), however, the Bandido had just been replaced by the Eldorado. I had read several articles on the Bandido II, one or more of them written by Aussies, and I felt that the Bandido II would be good for me. When I got the Eldorado and used it a bit, I was not disappointed. It is, and has been a great machine.

I feel that the Outlaw will add something to my arsenal, and my impressions of it, even after only 2 weekends are that it will find the types of things I want to find in the places I look for them. There is really nothing about it that I dont like, and although it is not "new" technology, it has all the features I look for in a good reliable machine that is easy to use and easy to understand. Having the range of coils that comes with it is a bonus, and I think it will give good value for money (for me). I like my Tesoros with the 10 kHz transmitting frequency, and have had good success with them.

I Still hope to take it to an area where I can see if it can find gold (or anything) in bad ground, and when that or anything else noteworthy happens, I will post further.

Furious T......

I'm sure the Outlaw performs like most other Tesoro ground balanced

The CSC is 3" by 18" it will cover ground more than the widescan. But the 10"/12" will have more depth.

Great feedback Furious - thanks. I hope to have a Outlaw soon and looking forward to putting it through a few tests and real worl hunts.

I been check'n in all weekend waiting for this report from you T  sounds like its as you would expect a tesoro umax to be .... yeah love to hear how it goes on the goldfields now that would put it through its paces , I hope you get the oppertunity to do that .... Ive read that the eldorado does ok prospecting , have you try'd your eldo in the goldfields ?

n/t

Hombre, I dont have, and I have not used the cleansweep coil, but I have been told that its depth is not all that great. The one time I used the 12 x 10 DD on the Outlaw it gave good depth, and as I indicated in my first report, I found a tiny silver ring (o.84 gm) at about 6 inches....with the sensitivity on 5. I also found very small copper coins at about 4 inches, with signals, while not brilliant, were good enough to make me want to dig.

trueblue, I haven't tried my Eldorado on the goldfields (alas and alack). I've found my Eldorado great at saltwater beaches, and one day even found myself in the surf with it when there was a small cut in the sand, and it was great. When it started raining I had to get my underwater detector as I couldn't protect the Eldorado from below and above:lol:

ya'd cry if ya drownded the eldo I would lol ...thanks for takin the time an givin us feedback I look forwrd to reading more on the Outlaw
