Hello, I went back to a big sand dune along the west coast last weekend. The week before, I had a good hunt with the Excal 2 there and found 3 rings along with about ten dollars in clad. I'm really starting to enjoy dry sand hunting more since I started using the Excal about 6 months ago. In the past I have mostly hunted the water and wet sand but with the Excal I will be adding a lot more dry sand hunts to my schedule as well.
The more I use the Excal, the more I have been leaving it in the "disc" mode. At first I was switching back and forth between "disc" and "pinpoint" so much that I was sure that I would wear out the switch in a few months. With practice I am able to pinpoint much better in "disc" than when I first started and I am getting better depth now as I am understanding the sounds better.
Another thing I like about hunting in "disc" is that the coil seems to cover a much wider area and I can move a little faster like I am accustomed to. In "pinpoint", I feel that I have to be right on top of the target to hear it and if I don't move really slow the target is easily missed. HH!
