The owner of the gold and platinum ring was hosting a yard party and had removed the ring, which was once her grandfather's ring, and placed it in a sneaker for "safe keeping". Their dog got all excited at the party and grabbed the shoe and was running all around the fenced in yard shaking the shoe as the ring's owner was chasing the dog trying to keep the ring from becoming lost.
Naturally she was distraught after discovering the ring had become lost. All of the approximate 50+ guests were on their knees for hours searching through the grass in the most likely places trying to find it.
Norm Jones (the guy who introduced me to metal detecting) was called in to hunt for the ring. He searched all the likely places for about 1 1/2 hours. He gave it another try in a slightly different area and got a "head banging" signal on his MXT. With the help of his Bullseye pinpointer, he located the ring deep in the lush Flori-tan grass roots .... obviously after being pressed down deeper by some searchers feet or knees.
The lady was knelled down right beside Norm as he recovered the ring .... then burst into tears as soon as she saw the ring had been found. Instead of donating the minimum $25, the lady wrote a check for $75 to the CCPD DTRT program.
Thank you and good job Norm. You are a credit to the hobby!
