Another day at the races:ausflag:

Hi all. Managed to team up with Geoff for another day at the old racecourse. As usual it was a real fun day. I have posted a couple of pics of my English and pre decimal Australian finds. I'm not too sure what Geoff finished up with but he had a swag of coins the same vintage as mine including a beautiful 1873 English crown or half crown, I'm not sure. A couple of inches of rain two weeks ago made the digging easier and the signals stronger. Spoke to the land owner at the end of the day and he invited us back.........Thanks for looking.....Ken.:twodetecting:

Very nice mate......keep those posts and coins comin!
Cheers!

Great bunch of coins Ken! Just a question, what's the coins top photo, at the very top, the silver one? Is it a crown? Also, are crowns hard to find? I've heard it said there weren't too many of them here, but that could be wrong. I'm partial to the seated ladies (Britannia coins), just loe them! Thanks for posting.

Hi Golden. The top coin is an English Florin, I think 1887 which was the jubilee year of Queen Victoria (50 years). Geoff got a beautiful half crown(1873)the other day which is the only one I've seen..Ken.

Ken, I can't say how amazed I am at your finds. You're so consistent on the really old good stuff, it's such an inspiration to me. I'm also so impressed that you have the nerve to ask some of these owners for permission, and a lot of times are granted it. That should be an inspiration to all of us. Marc Trainor.

G'day Marc. For me, researching old sites is half the fun and sometimes pays off. As for asking permission, at first I was a bit hesitant but soon realised they can only say no, which surprisingly few people do. This afternoon I revisited the picnic site beside the river I went to a couple of months ago. All these coins except one were over 9 inches, three pennies, two halfpennies, one sixpence and four threepences. Thanks for looking..............Ken.

I went detecting today for a couple of hours at the beach, tried a small area of dry sand near a pier where a few scallop trawlers where moored, and only found a key and round bit of aluminium! But I got so distracted with watching these huge sting rays gliding close to the water's edge, looking for food. They came in so close, I could've touched them! I wished I brought my camera. There must have been almost a dozen I saw, just moving through the water, under the pier, etc. It truly looked amazing seeing so many all together. Golden:)
