Another beautiful day so I think I'll grab my rake. :)

It's 2:49am right now. I'll head out about 4:30 to be where I want to start when it gets light and hunt a bit before work.

From experience in years past, as well as some observation this past week, I have a fair idea of some of the playgrounds that are going to get used during the summer. They have been hunted by others, and I've dome my part to thin them out this past month, so now it's time to do a little raking. There are two types of rake I use to hep make these playgrounds more attractive, safer for the kids, and maybe just a bit more productive for me (or others should they beat me to them I guess).

Some playgrounds get a lot of hard use and the wood chips seem to get pushed up under some of the structures and not out where kids can safely land on it. Naturally, coins and jewelry and junk get pushed up there as well. I use my short, collapsible rake for this task. I bought it for $5 or $6 at a Big Lots store several years ago.

Very light and the handle can collapse for easy carry. I can affix a nightstick or flashlight ring to my belt and slip the rake it in to carry at my side. This is for the quick hit-and-run detecting I do at playgrounds when they have been hard hunted and output is low.

I will detect the area under the equipment that is worn down near where the build-up is under the structure, as well as the area near pipes, etc. I want to make sure I rake the loose wood chips over a bare area and not have to dig through what I move.

Great practice Monte, the big bucket is the way to go. Do that myself. I never thought of moving the mulch to get the coins to grow though, thanks!
