Another Alternative on High Performance Excal Headphones...........

Do you HATE your Koss or old blue clunker headphones on your Excaliber? Are you in a bind, because Minelab will no longer install the ikelite connector, for Gray Ghost Underwater Headphones? Would you like to improve, but just feel hopeless about the alternatives? Here is a revolutionary answer to your dilemma (this may still void headphone warranty).

In Clive James Clynicks, "Advanced Field Methods for the Minelab Excaliber:Theory & Practice, I was intrigued with the headphones developed by "MR. GOLD MASTER" . Clive also uses them and apparently they both felt like this was a better alternative than any currently available. I am not REAL handy with soldering and my engineering stinks, so I simply inquired of "MR. GOLD MASTER" , if he would entertain modding mine for me. He takes a pair of Peltor H7A aviation headphones and installs the audio portion of the Koss or old blues into the Peltors.

I have since switched over from what I was previously using to these exclusively and have had excellent results with these. Tonal quality is exceptionally accurate, they are comfortable and wind noise is significantly reduced over stock.

Send Mr.Gold Master a PM, if you want to get a set of these for your own unit:
"MR. GOLD MASTER" states,
"Yeah, spread the word on the mod will do it for
$60 labor + $25 H7A + return shipping cost
I also could take payment by pay pal , Money order or check"

This is one of my personal Excal 800s here with the Peltors installed, but of course mine have the ikelite connector. If you don't have one, no biggie though, as this can be performed hardwired!

Then the Peltor H7A aviation headphones are not water proof, correct?
I need to find a place to buy the ikelite connector so I can switch out my G/G underwater phones when not getting wet with the Peltors with "old blues" innards if they sound as clean as you say (I have 2 sets of blues and one of the Koss). I have hard wired G/G underwaters on both my Excals, but an ikelite fitting would be nice.

Respectfully,
Larry

Finished, the Peltor H7A are just a shell with the guts of the stock waterproof wiring inside them plus the insulation. had mine under, in, splashed by salt water / no problems plus I have retained the original tones & sounds..with the ambient noise level cut to almost nothing! Mine are the PeltorH10a 31dbs w/Jel seal cushions...I think the stock Excal are close to 10dbs and 12 if you silicon the holes on the top and bottom..if you hunt where there is alot of atmospheric sound transmission {ambient noise}, these are a must have. The Peltors are an empty shell, and I just wash them out just like I did the GGs or Koss/old blues. The mod can be performed by Mr.Bill at Surfscanners, to install the ikelite onto the control housing and on any existing headphones you have. Not sure where the parts themselves are readily available though, maybe ikelite direct?

Would really like to send him a message but the message system just dont recognize any variation of that name.

I now have the peltors too on the excalibur II thanks to OBN's help, fantastic. I would say the difference is something like using the stock speaker on a land detector compared to using it with headphones its that good.

Hi Old Beachnut.
I have a ??? for you. I have the same camera in your pics.
I noticed you mounted them to you headphones, did you use that
velcro that came with the camera? Or did you screw them to the
headphones? Also whats the laser for, too see where the camera is pointing?
I love the camera, the only downfall is the poor sound do to being waterproof.

I am going for the Peltor Excalibur conversion myself. I just need to order the Peltors and get them shipped. I found a place locally to buy but, by the time I burn gas and pay sales tax it is cheaper and easier to order off of Amazon. If I do a water tight connector, I am leaning toward the Bulgin connectors rated IP68 for waterproof. I used Western Safety hearing protectors from Harbor Freight and put in Sony elements, this is for use with the Sovereign and they made a huge difference in the wind noise.

Bolted on,
Going WP also on the headphones, changing out the mylar speakers for the piezo's, and the Bulgins for the RCA........Amp is going semi/WP........laser was a few years ago when I first had XC hooked up to get a better target to video center, since then the XC's have went to a wider field of view and better video quality...good in that but now they eat batteries faster..first XC I had the batteries would last 14 to 16 hours, now the new ones are from 4 to 6 I think. Tip on the XC, I spent alot of time editing the video's trying to find the finds..now when I find something worth while I just stop the camara recording and start it. Knowing that at the end of most of the clips is the part I'm going to use..saving me big time. .......post some of your video's once you get going...............................Good Luck .joe
