the new electronic pinpointer from Minelab.....

Can't wait to try one to see if it eliminates some of the minor GPP problems. The 2 problems I have with the GPP is that after finding a target in the hole, if you don't cycle it off and on, it will still signal a target in the hole when there is none. The other problem is that the GPP affects the MXT. I also think the sensitivity adjustment could come in handy in certain scenarios.

I'm curious what it will cost and if it gets better depth than the already excellent depth of my Pro Pointer. The other thing I'm wondering about is the adjustable sensitivity. All the pinpointers I ever owned were a pain to play with that to walk that line between decent enough depth and yet not falsing. Ended up spending more time toying with that then finding the targets. The Pro Pointer's auto sensitivity adjustment on power up has been great in that respect. I'm impressed with it's depth but if I need more I just super tune it and that usually saves me from having to get back up to re-pinpoint the target. Looking forward to hearing how the new Minelab compares to it performance wise in terms of depth and no-hassle use.

Dirt Angler, I've never have falsing problems with the Pro Pointer. Or I should say rarely has that happened. If it falses from the ground in really bad sites with hot rocks or such that cause that I just turn it off and turn it back on with the tip touching the ground and then it auto adjusts to compensate for the soil causing falsing. Like I said though, I've rarely had to do that. Never had a problem with it falsing in a hole either once the target is removed. I find it a very reliable Pin Pointer and would give up hunting if I couldn't use it anymore. The battery life gets me almost a year too so that's not an issue. I really enjoy both the audio and vibration increasing as the target gets closer.

Critterhunter,
Both of my GPP's will indicate there is a target still in the hole after recovery if I don't cycle it off and on. A buddy I hunt with has his GPP do the same thing. He couldn't understand why he couldn't find the 2nd target until I told him to cycle it off and on and then check the hole. After he did this, no signal remained in the hole. They don't do it all the time but it's fairly frequent.

That's odd. Maybe you have some funky soil, because my and the two main guys I always hunt with have never had that problem with ours, except on a rare occassion where it falses on some super bad ground for some odd reason. As said, in ground like that we just turn it on with the tip touching the ground and it auto tunes to not do that. Try that and see if the problem goes away for you. Also, maybe it's a problem with the close frequency of your MXT to it, because I know the M6 my friend had like many have said with the MXT would go nuts when the Pro Pointer was turned on. Perhaps it's cross talking to the Pro Pointer and causing it to do that for you? Far as I know (?) no other machines have the cross talking problem with the Pro Pointer, or at least that I've heard. I know it doesn't bother my GT, nor my friend's Etracs or Explorers. I think I remember reading somewhere that the Pro Pointer and MXT/M6 have very close frequencies, thus the problem, but I don't know if that's what is causing your issue. It'd be interesting to hear what frequency this new Minelab is using and what potential problems it might have with certain machines because of that. If it's a different frequency than the Pro Pointer it might be an attractive option to M6/MXT guys.

I doubt it's using BBS. I'm sure it's a single frequency. Just too bulky to put multifrequency into a small package like that, but I really should read the manual on their site and stop speculating about stuff.

Or...You didn't mean what is BBS, did you? I doubt it, but if you did it's the multifrequency the Sovereign and Excalibur use. The Etrac/Explorer use FBS. I see you just registered on here so maybe you were asking that, but if you weren't then I apologize.

Watched the KellyCo video of the Minelab Pro-Find 25. It said it used VLF(very low frequency) technology. The Pro-Find 25 also reminded me a whole lot of the pinpointer I am using now. I believe the old saying "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" holds true in this case.
