A few things I wonder about...With adjustable sensitivity I wonder if it's a hassle to adjust like it was for me on all other pinpointers I've used. That's one of the reasons why I love the Pro Pointer as it just auto adjusts sensitivity on power up. I've only had it false on me in very bad ground on rare occassions. When that happens I just turn it off and then back on with the tip touching the ground and then it auto adjusts to the soil conditions. I couldn't be happier with the Pro Pointer so unless this new one gets outrageously more depth I won't be upgrading. I'm happy with the depth of the Pro Pointer anyway, and I can always super tune it with Ism's sidekick for more depth when needed. I like doing that when I can't hear the target because it saves me getting up and re-pinpointing with the detector.

Regardless what it cost or does ill stick with my SunRay S-1 flick the switch and your set no hassle adjusting anything and the probe is water proof , after seeing the video i thought about it unless your night hawking you don't need a LED light ,plus i use BW head phones i wont hear a thing i had one of those pin pointers that vibrate ain't used it since , iam guessing without looking it cost 134.00 ? . Jim

I think it would have been slick to put a wireless transmitter in it so that it would speak through the CTX wireless headphones. That way it could still be used with other detectors with it's built in speaker but when using the CTX you'd hear it through your headphones as well.

The S-1 is the favorite of many and I too prefer it over anything else and has paid for itself many times over finding the targets that are deep and those at a angle where many will not find and dig.
I feel this new Pro-Find is going to be somewhere between $170-$200 myself and we will see when they come out, but for my Sovereign I will stick to my S-1.
It would have been nice if Minelab would have made a wireless probe for the CTX 3030 being they have the wireless on it and being Sun Ray cant make a Probe for it. I will probably use my Uni Probe on my CTX.

small and compact but my Garrett Pro Pointer works great for me and has never failed me, so having said that, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".....

Digger ,even though I like my S-1 for the Sovereign I need a handheld for my other detectors.I called a Minelab dealer and said he may have the Pro-Find 25 in stock a week or two and would give me a call.I'm looking forward to using this new pin pointer. Thanks Ron

For my inland Sovereign GT use, I will continue to use the Sunray S-1.
For the salt beach, I like my Vibraprobe since it is a pulse unit and impervious to the salt.
However, when I eventually get another machine I will get the Pro-Find 25 instead of the Garrett PROpointer.
Why?
Well the vibration mode only option on the Minelab Pro-Find 25, is what sold it to me.
The peculiar beeping of the Garrett PROpointer draws unwanted attention in public.
just my opinion.

I prefer both sound and vibration all the time, but many just tape over the speaker with foam or put rubber cement over it to quiet it down. The way I think the less switches the less chance for moisture/dirt getting into the unit or for some kind of switch/electronics failure. I see it has a light on/off switch. I see no point in that, because the Garrett comes on at every power up and LED lights draw so little power that I see no need to save any power via a switch for that. I get almost a year out of a 9V in the Pro Pointer.

Also, is it me or does it look a little "squarish" in the hand area? Doesn't seem like it would fit as comfortable in the hand to me. And, in the video on Minelab's site sometimes the hand area looks kind of fat and much bigger than the Pro Pointer, but then in other shots in the video it doesn't. Wierd, like the Two Faced Seinfield episode where his girlfriend looked bad in certain lighting and fine in others. Is it just me or were they using a stand in with huge hands for certain shots? Also, why do I think this thing is going to be much heavier than the Pro Pointer? I'm probably wrong about that but just have a feeling. I should really look at the specs in the manual before opening my mouth.

And, what do they mean by "no interference when off" or whatever on the site? Of course you wouldn't get any when off. Far as interference when on, no amount of technology can change that if it's close to the same frequency of a metal detector you are using. I at least saw somebody somewhere saying something about that "non-interference" thing and scratched my head wondering how that's even possible due to cross talk on close frequencies.

I don't like the auto OFF function. Just something else to fail, and a real hassle with the Vibraprobe when I've used that. I mean, anyway...most of us harness the Pro Pointer in a holder right next to our digger, so how many people don't know they've left it on when it starts singing on you as you go to put it away? The nature of pinpointers is an abusive environment. For that reason I want less electronics and no features that might go south on me, along with less buttons for less risk of contamination or failure. The Pro Pointer seems the perfect balance of design and function for it's purpose.

Either way, if it's not a hassle to just the sensitivity like I found it was on other pinpointers, and if the depth is much better than the Pro Pointer's already excellent depth, and if the price isn't higher, then I might consider one for those three reasons only.

ok after reading all of these answers i am wondering, do all of you use a pro pointer when hunting ? i am new here so was wondering if its worth the investment even though i need a waterproof coil first, thanks for all info, larry

Most coils these days are waterproof. Which coil do you have and for what machine? Many use the Pro Pointer, but some are also big fans of the Sun Ray inline probes.

hi critter, i have the sov xs and have just got rons meter for it also, i am wanting a waterproof coil because i live near the jersey shore and figure most of my hunting will be on the beach but i do have some old parks around, so that is why i am wondering if the pointer would be worth the investment after buying a coil of course, thanks , larry

Check out the coil sticky thread. Far as I know the only Sovereign coils that aren't waterproof are the 8 and 11" Coinsearch coils and the 12" SOLID (white) Sun Ray S-12 maybe. If anybody knows of any other Sovereign coils that aren't waterproof chime in. Larry, which coil do you have? Since you have an XS I'm guessing the 8" Coinsearch coil? Yep, I wouldn't use that. Some have used it in water by sealing the coil nut with rubber cement on the threads but if that coil's case has any kind of pin hole in it it'll be lights out as that coil isn't filled with epoxy. I heard it tries to float a bit too. Most coils these days are filled with epoxy so there is no way for water to get into them, even if the case has a breach in it. They mix the epoxy with micro balloons so it's not super heavy. I think that's why the old BBS coils were so heavy because that was before micro balloon technology I think. I only know of this stuff because I build RC electric planes of my own design. When I epoxy a foam wing for more strength I ran across the fact that many in the RC crowd mic micro balloons into the epoxy to drop more weight. The epoxy is still just as strong. It just traps air in it to drop some weight. Kind of like a bird having hollow bones.
