Annisquam Light

Annisquam Lighthouse is built on the mouth of the Annisquam River. Erected in 1801! You see the Keepers House, alongside the Light. The Stone building, would be the Oil Storage shed, where originally Whale Oil would be stored to power the Light. The Light is automated, and maintained by the Coast Guard. Back in the Seventies, a personal friend, then in the Coast Guard, gutted the floors in the Keepers House, rebuilt the foundation, and replaced all floor joists.

Question, why did everyone use whale oil to fuel the lamps? Thanks for posting the great pictures and story, enjoyed the Post. :clapping: Kelley (Texas) :)
