Andy, Are all the X70 coils concentric coils?

Liked them on my Tesoros as they are easier to pinpoint and you can really dig up a lot more targets with them.

My Minelabs Quattro/Sov all have DD coils and wonder how manufacturers decide to use concentric or DD as their stock coils. Why concentrics on the Xterras?

Doug,

Since the 1st Sovereign came out, I have been a convert to the DD camp and enough other hunters were as well that virtually all manufacturers now offer DD coils as standard or options for their detectors.

With that said, there are still those that swear by concentric coils for reasons ranging from pinpointing to separation to who knows what. That feedback went into the X-Terra development and hence they come with the concentric coils standard.

As I have posted previously, there were a number of one-of-a-kind hand built coils that were used in the testing over the last year or so including some DD coils. As far as what coils will come out when I do not have a crystal ball but I will state what is in the current X-70 manual.

==================================
PAGE 48

The X-70 allows you to check what coil is connected which shows the communication between the housing and the coil. When you are in the MENU screen, press & hold the ACCEPT/REJECT touch pad. The legend about the coil will appear on the screen. The following messages will be possible as per the manual:

cS = Concentric standard frequency
cL = Concentric low frequency
cH = Concentric high frequency
dS = DD standard frequency
dL = DD low frequency
dH = DD high frequency

==================================

As far as the shapes of each; i.e., round or elliptical, smaller or larger, that information is not provided yet but I do know that Minelab is working on additional coils and a schedule to release them on.

Does this help??
