Steve in so az!! Steve's guess was the closest qualifing guess. Congrats Steve!!

Although, the actual closest guess was Mike (sw Wash), but unfortunately I couldn't find where he had posted in this forum this year. But Mike, I would like to offer you a consolation prize of a dug 1944 Mercury Head dime for coming closest to the actual charges. Please correct me if I'm wrong and I missed where you have posted here before!!

Please PM your mailing address to me and I'll get your prizes out to you.

Oh, the actual charges were........$18,100

And Mike from Mi, the blessing is our primary insurance will cover 90%, we think, and hopefully our secondary will cover the balance.

Thanks to all who participated and God Bless!!

I win a new Explorer SE??? :) WOW! I am in the wrong business.!!!:surprised:

I knew it would be expensive, but I had no idea it would be that much. That's a not for profit organization too?

There was probably a doctor, nurse and pilot on-board. The medical equipment, supplies and the helicopter itself are hugely expensive. The helicopter flights as far as I know are only used in life threatening situations. Some doctor had to say that Brian's life was in the balance to get that ride. Praise God the doctor did and Brian is doing better. In the balance of things the money is a small price to pay for Brian although it's going to be a burden for Doug and the family. God may still provide a solution to this disease. As Sir Winston Churchill once said, "Never give up, never give up, never give up".
May God bless you, Vicky, Doug and his family,
Paul(NWO)

And you are correct Paul, there was a nurse and doctor aboard to monitor Brian for the trip. I was going to take him myself but they wouldn't let us and initially were going to transport him by ambulance but in the end, they decided that would take too long. And, it potentially was a life threatening situation because of the amount of blood he had lost. As far as the burden, it sits squarely on Christ's shoulders because we can no longer carry it. We know now to expect the unexpected with Brian's future and no longer worry about doctor bills. God has blessed us in many ways, Carol has great insurance and several years ago I picked up an accident and health insurance policy from Combined Insurance that helps cover all of our out of pocket expenses. Man, if you accident prone check out Combined Insurance, it is inexpensive and they pay every claim. Plus, a local church and many individuals have blessed us with financial gifts. Yes, it's in the Lord's hands and he is faithful and has been with us through it all. When all this happened Carol wanted to see if she could ride in the helicoptor so she stayed behind while dad and I drove to Nashville. I had been without sleep at least 24 hours when we started but I wanted to be at the hospital when Brian arrived. I knew it was impossible for us to beat it but we thought we would give it a try. Then two things happened. Carol called and said she couldn't ride in the chopper and would ride with my sister to Nashville after Brian took off. But, they had to finish the transfusion and that delayed the flight for about an hour. When we were half way there, Carol called to tell us that they were on the way and that the helicoptor had been delayed because of heavy fog. Because of those two delays dad and I beat the helicoptor by about five minutes and were waiting for Brian when they brought him in. I wish I had a picture of his smile when he saw us. The strange thing about the whole thing is I never was frightened or worried about the outcome, deep down inside I had a strong feeling that Brian would be OK and I know it is the peace you can only have if Christ is dwelling within you.

Paul, thank you for your prayers!

I wasn't complaining about the cost... just amazed it was that much even with knowing a medical staff was on board.

Always nice to hear how God takes care of the faithful. It's a great feeling when you "let go" and have the Lord handle things isn't it?

The doctor who was on call says..."I know Brian, I pray for him every week in my Sunday school class!" He goes to the church we used to go to and is in Carol's sister and brother-in-laws class!

Yes Joe, it is, but it wasn't until He humbled me that I could swallow my pride! God has blessed us in so many ways I could write a small book just on His blessings and gifts bestowed on us by His faithful followers. God is good, faithful and just. But, there is still this little ball of pride deep down inside that says "I can handle this myself, etc....". But, the Lord is working on that!!

Actually, my wife gave me my guess :) Thx, Doug - and thanks to having insurance. When I had my heart op 3 years ago it came to 75 K. I paid very little. steve in so az
