I went to Forest park today for the first time after all these years living in St.loius ..because you all said it was hunted to death .... So I did a Bryce ...
Said I was going for the nickle sounds since there was suppose to be no silver left there ....... I got out of the truck turned my unit on walked 30 feet and got my first signal so I thought ok its a tab ... I dig and out pops a nickle ,,at this point I didnt know what kind of nickle it was ,cause it was to dirty to tell so in my pocket it went ,,,,, I thought to my self No way a nickle that easy !
Any way I walk another 10 feet and get another low conductor sound so I dig it and yes it was a pull tab ,,, I thought this is good at least theres tabs ,,,,,meaning some one else wasnt digging them ... not 30 sec later another low signal . I dig it and see something kinda shiny and i say no way ,,,,, but there it was a 1944 d war nickle ,,,, i thought cool im liking this place .....lol .. At this point I needed to know what kind of nickle I had dug first So I dug it out of my pocket ,,, and I guess the dirt had dried enough that now i could see a V on it ,,,, so i had to sit there and try to see the date ... so I cleaned it enough to see the the date a 1888 V nickle ...
The singals are few and far between but I did come across 4 modern pennies ,,,, and then it was time to go home .. So as Im detecting back to the truck I get one of those high sounds ,,,, and after ...yes I did dig alot of alum. scrap I thought ..ok 1 more piece of alum,,, Im going to have to sell ....I dig the hole and low and behold ..a silver canadian dime a 1919 king george.... .. Well it was a fun after noon .... Glad all you guys cleaned out most of the junk and scrap from Forest park ... so i didnt have to dig all those signals ............ Thanks Bryce for your earlier post about going for the gold !!! ..... I shall have to do it again ......I know guys !!! I just got lucky!!!!!

Good job. I've only dug one war nickel since I don't dig many low conductors, but I seem to remember it hit much higher, close to a 90% silver coin. Congrats and looking forward to the pics.

I too dont dig low conductors but since there were very few signals I dug all of them ... If i remember it hit around 8 -21 .... i usally just hunt by tone but i cked it.... normally would have not dug it .....

Nasty or not WTG nice digs. :clapping:
Just a Buffalo and a Shield and you would have had a Quad Slam.
Finding old nickels are a snap once you learn where they hit and their movements on the SmartFind screen.
Also, nickels have probably been the most past over coins simply because the older machine where not that great on discerning them from trash and pulltabs.
You can really dig up some nice items digging Nickel hits.

I see you weren't kidding in the private message you sent me Don!

Nice work...and good to see you found some ground that hadn't been filled in.:stars:

Forest Park is extremely pounded and has been for many years...so you did well.

One of these days I'll try to meet you there to hunt.
