Met up with Dave-IL and B-Rad (Bigdigger) tonight for a 2 hour hunt which led on into the darkness...and of course my buddy Hercules came along.

I didn't get done at the gym until about 4:30 and it gets dark at about 6:00...but we figured it was such a nice day...we needed to hunt.
Pickins' are few and far between any more at this site...but on occasion an oldie will pop out. This year the field was beans which is a little easier to swing in than corn stalks. Not much...but maybe a little.
After a getting pocketfull of crap from trying nickel hits I finally got a deep faint warble that nulled at times.
I dug down in the muddy soil and popped out a clod which had a smooth gray disc stuck to it. Right next to the clod was a fat old, rusty bolt

Once I pulled it from the mud clod and turned it over; I was thrilled to see it was a seated dime. Smooth as a baby's butt on one side but plain as day seated on the other.

I had no clue what the date was without my glasses but once I put my phone camera on "magnify" I could see it clearly a 1839

I think I missed a bust coin by only one year? This is obviously my oldest seated coin to date. Would have loved to find bust silver but I'm still stoked about the 1839 date.
Dave and Brad were both doing well too.
B-Rad popped out 2 injuns' and a sweet 1898 Barber dime while Dave unearthed a gorgeous 1891 seated dime and an injun'.
It was now beyond dark on us but we kept on going enjoying the near 50 degree evening.
Finally after trying over 20 lower conductor hits I hit paydirt...and it was yellow.
I never waste my valuable hunt time chasing these types of nickel hits in my parks because it just isn't worth it. Out here though I'll give 'em a shot.
I thought for sure it was going to be a v-nickel as I have already dug 2 of those and two shield nickels from here but I was wrong.
I called over Dave so he could listen to the sound before I dug and I told him I was betting on a v-nickel.
I dug the muddy plug and started running the probe. I then popped out a chunk of mud after pinpointing the "nickel" hit...and started scraping muck off of it.
At the same time...Dave and I saw the glimmer of gold. I got so excited and said "Holy Sh#$". In doing so I tossed the ring out of my trembling hands and up in the air. We then both panicked and started running our probes in the pitch black dark trying to find it again

I personally don't think it's that old of a ring...at least it looks ike it might be from the 1940's or newer to me as compared to some of the other finds from this site. I found it about 30 feet out in the field from where we park our vehicles....which is where it leads into the site. It could have been lost at a church picnic or something many years earlier as there is a church adjoined to the site. It definitely doesn't look like it is from the 1800's to me though...as most of the other finds are.

I have had a lot of fun at this site and the three of us have all pulled some very sweet old coins from here. I'm pretty sure I pulled at least 6 or 7 seated coins from here last year and Dave got his first here. B-Rad has pulled some gorgeous silver as well..and between us I know we have dug more than 40 injuns'.
Thanks to all for viewing and enjoy the hunting while you can. Cold weather is already here from some...and is on it's way everywhere else.
