anbody ever hear of just a plain bandido2

Most Tesoros have great followings...They love Gold.....Detecting at it's most basic"BEEP & DIG" .

yes, there was a series of the II detectors by Tesoro. They made a Silver Sabre II, a Golden Sabre II, a Bandido II, there might be more, those are the ones I had. Im gonna guess the early 90s is when they were new. the control box is similiar to the current day Lobo ST and the rods if I rremember had no camlock on them. they had a hipmount flange on the bottom of them. excellent detectors, right before the Umax series.

was just a slight modification of the 'original' Bandido (3/'90 thru 6/'93). The control housing is shorter than the Bandido, Golden Sabre II and Pantera which use two-longer 4-AA battery holders. The Bandido & Bandido II relied on 2-9V batteries. They can operate on 1-9V for a shorter life, if necessary.

Personally, I preferred the original Bandido because it had the ED-120 Discrimination and the 10-turn manual GB control, and there was one toggle switch to select Discrimination,All metal and Retune (for All Metal). The Bandido II was essentially the same but had an added toggle so you could select a Fast auto-tune in All Metal, or NONE. None meant you had to manually retune the detector, and for me, the auto-tune of the Bandido II was too fast. It was supposed to help nugget hunters but I felt the original Bandido's auto-tune speed was quite functional for day-to-day hunting.

Good detectors. Not the greatest depth of detection, especially after the first 4" or so, but they had the good quick-response/fast-recover that Tesoro is best known for.
