Sounds normal to me cuz as soon as you pass a target, you need it to hang so you can look at it - if I understand what your saying.
When I sweep normally in the search mode (trigger center), I listen to the audio for a good sound (not broken), and if I get that good sound, I'll re-sweep that target. If it continues to sound good and repeatable, I'll sweep at different angles and look at the pattern displayed while in search mode.
If it looks good, then I'll pinpoint (toggle pulled) the target and at the same time, pay attention to the color bars.
Then once I got an eyeball where the target is, I'll usually go back to the search mode (trigger center) for a pass or two.
Then, while the coil is off to one side of the target and held still, I'll go to the analyze mode (trigger out) and then give it a second or two to establish the threshold.
Then I'll sort of hop (pass coil over and pass) the target, hesitate for a second, then pass back and stop off the side of the target (where I started) - look at the display - then hop (pass) back to the opposite side, stop & look, pass back and stop & look. If necessary, I'll do this another pass or two.
I have had times that when I switched to the analyze mode and swept over the target before the threshold tone, the display can freeze up. So I establish a threshold tone while off the side, pop to the right, stop, pop to the left, stop, look, then do a couple more hops and stop after each pass and look at the display. Getting the threshold tone established before sweeping over the target seems to keep the display from freezing up from the start - have only had this happen a couple times.
Don't know if what you are referring to is what I'm trying to convey - which I'm terrible at - but if you are referring to the analyze displaying what the machine sees after a pass, you (or I) wouldn't want the display to change to sudden before I could soak in a little information.
