An unusual Compadre find, from an unusual place.....

A few years ago we were looking for a site in west Alabama. It was on a high hill, had been a hotel before the Civil War and a lodge for Confederate veterans after the war. We knew the general area and made a few trips looking for the right hill but never found it. The last trip there wasn't all that long after I ordered the Compadre for my hunting buddy Jim's son that Jim liked so well his son never got to use it. An old gentleman who thought he knew where the hotel had been directed us to a big hill, way out in the backwoods. Wrong hill again so no luck finding the hotel site, but right across the road from the hill was the long defunct Cobbtown snake handling church. The old church building was still there and since we struck out on the hotel again we decided to hunt around it. Evidently people had been using it to hide from the law while they were drinking as it was loaded with beer cans, tabs and tops from beer and whiskey bottles. Tracey and I found a few wheaties each, but Jim hit the jackpot with the Compadre. In addition to a couple of wheaties he got the KKK Member in Good Standing medal in the photo and an 1877 seated dime. The medal is probably worth a few bucks, maybe more than a few as there's no question it's authentic, but Jim is much like I am in that he puts his finds in boxes and pretty much forgets them. If anyone has any interest in locating that church or hotel site, be forewarned the locals aren't the friendliest folks in the south:).
