An old companion passes on,

BarnacleBill

Well not that old. She was a mere newborn two years ago, but after two summers of freshwater wading, her time had come. How many times had she been rode hard and put away wet? And oh the indignity, broke her neck chasing a deep bottle cap.

She never had a name, so how about Ol’ Digger, kind of like Ol’ Yeller. And just like dog years are 7:1 to human years, wading shovels must have something like 50:1. Now I could replace her handle, but stress cracks have appeared in several places along her torso, so why prolong the agony?

Farewell Ol’ Digger, I’d give you a Viking Burial , but the Marine Patrol has warned me that if I do that with one more personal item, they are going to arrest me. And that was the only thing that saved the Tejon’s life.

mine is bent pretty badly, but the old girl does not seem to wanna give in yet ;) May sound crazy but my shovel does have a name...."RelicRazor II". I saw a bunch of goofy names like that in a Kellyco catalog once on cheap/overpriced shovels, & decided that my $14 hardware store model was just as good & needed a name. Yes, as ya may have guessed, my original "RelicRazor" met a similar fate as yours & only lasted a very short time. But, this baby's over 2 years young now & makes an appearance slung over my shoulder on "Fisher World Treasure News".
I just added "relicRazor III" to the mix. IF anyone has a BJ's Club near them they have the mini shovels in a really stronger, non-breakable version (yellow metal shaft) for like $7 bucks! :surprised:
(I'll try to take a pic of it soon)
