An idea for making good finds with the V3....

Most people get frustrated around picnic tables because there is something like a shield of pulltabs and bottlecaps.

I got this idea from a friend who was going to use it at a park... then I got to thinking about picnic tables where the tabs are thick.

I wonder if running the V3 in 22.5 non-normalized with a small coil like the 4x6 or 5.3 might make it easier to pull some rings out of that kind of place. They should be there and if the tabs can be marked, digging other VDIs that are similar but different enough might be a worthwhile endeavor. I suppose you would dig bent of folded tabs but I bet some gols too.

I am going to try it as soon as I get a chance.

Yes That's what I'M thinking....... I just got my V and still new to it...... but did manage to get in a couple of hours with it at my local soccer field & got 4 Rings in one hunt .

Apparently The V3i 22.5 loves jewelry

I only hunt in the one frequency 22.5 with norm off........ The list below are what I got so far as VDI's with 22.5 with norm off

quarter ........ 92
Dime ........89-90
Nickel .........57-58
zinc.......83
modern Tab.....65
men's wedding band .....58
Large woman's diamond ring ......74
small Signet ring...47
small cross..........37
thin necklaces..........34
foil.........14
gum wrapper...............8

I hunt picnic tables all the time, and have picked many good finds among the tabs. I'm willing to accept that I'm going to dig some tabs, and some bottle caps on occasion. I use the 5.3 coil in those locations, and use 3 frequency as it helps me determine what kind of metal I"m hitting. I don't like single frequency myself, as I prefer to have as much information as possible with the 3 frequencies. I've also become a believer in the HiPro program, and I don't mind at all that I'm not discriminating a lot of the stuff, as I've learned how to pick out good vs bad, and pick those coins in very close proximity to pull tabs..etc.

I find small coils, cleaning out junk, and patience/time lasts me only so long at times when it comes to a junk pile around those tables. On some, I go back every now & then and I clean out a little more each time. I only go back to those that have produced some good finds among the junk. As long as it produces something worthwhile every now & then, I go back. If I hit a junk table area maybe 2, 3, 4 times and it's nothing but loads of junk and a pain, then I usually mark that one (mentally) to avoid any future times when I'm around the area.
But when it comes to those junky tables, small coils, slow, digging till I need a change of pace.
