An Idea For Low Light Or Night Hunting!

If you hunted in very low light or even at night and I have then you know just how invisible a black search coil can be, I think I've come up with something that is the cats pajamas! I had a little trouble getting the camera to really get the effects of this.
I'm in the house,
its pretty dark,
I have one of those little headband LED lights on,
no flash!
The all red picture is only one little red LED,
The other picture is the other mode of the light which is four white LEDs.

With the red LED you can pretty much see good to search, if your not in a wooded or brushy area, then just switch to the white LEDs to dig.

What I put on the coil is some of that tractor/trailer DOT reflective tape. I cut it in narrow short semi circles.
On those to Hot to hunt summer days, just do it at night! (where its safe)

Sweet! I had a led keychain that shot out a green light, I could not believe how that lit up the surrounding area at night..especially in the woods....way better than red or white to my eyes anyway...sure wished I had one when I was trapping.

The idea isn't so much the light, but the reflective tape and how little light (any color) it takes to light up the coil.
The single red LED doesn't attract bugs, or people like the super bright blue or white LED's.
Now, when you kneel down to dig then you need the brighter light.

Maybe this evening after dark I'll try to get a better picture of the reflective coils.
I used to night hunt a lot years ago, but we have a city park with some off beat areas that I'm thinking about night hunting in.

I night hunt on the beach, often a fellow doesn't need a light at all scooping in the sand like a fellow does....I dont know about park hunting around here at night, too many rogues could sneak up on a fellow, and this time of the year the skunks are out heavy too!

Here is some outside after dark pictures,
The all red one is a little darker than it really was, you could make out the grass and objects around you somewhat.

The brighter one I changed the light to "Dig Mode" but I am still standing up.

I think reflective coils should be STANDARD from the factory, they could do it MUCH better than reflective tape LoL!

Notice the little white Fisher 1266 coil on the left, it really doesn't need anything reflective added to it, I really like the white coils better than the black ones.

A couple of weeks ago I was on the beach and noticed that it was getting dark. So I turned around and started walking and swinging as I walked. Of course I had to dig any targets that my coil went over. I could see well enough to scoop the target but could not see the target in the scoop. Since I did not have a light it made finding the target in the scoop a little difficult. It took me a long time to get off the beach as I had wandered much further than what I thought that I had. Was too busy digging targets to pay attention to how far I had wandered up the beach. Made me wish that I had planned ahead and taken my headlamp. The reflective tape is a neat idea that I may have to employ.
