An idea for better CTX 3030 battery...

Hello,

I have an etrac and really like it. The best detector I have every used. So much I still need to learn.

I am looking at purchasing a new CTX 3030. But I am disappointed at the questionable battery seal, particularly at the the $2000 plus price point.

I see there is a new cell phone charging technology, where the battery is recharged by magnetic induction. Then the battery can be sealed within the device.

This is called "Qi" charging:

Yes, this charging is slower. But, if the battery seal is better, I would certainly wait. Most of charge our units overnight anyway.

Has MInelab considered this technology for a possible redesign of the CTX 3030? This would solve the battery seal issue, and the meticulous care required to keep the seal clean, and lubricated, etc.

Lets keep it simple, and take the worry of getting water in this fine detector.

Just my opinion!

It would be cool. Then..... It would leak somewhere else. Mine is never going for a swim. That's what they make Excalibur's for. No matter what they tell you.

Hello
I forgot to mention I also have a Excalibur.I bought both of them from one of the forum sponsors, and they treated me right.
I like it too. I live near a lake, and like to see what is out there.
But on screen target identification would help me sort out the junk, and ID some of the really deeper items.
I think we will see the next generation of cell phones all have sealed batteries.
I would to see a detect with target ID that can truly waterproof up to 6 to 10 feet, and just plain not worry about it.
Great forum here, and a great place to exchange ideas.
Thanks
Craig

They would have to redesign the CTX. Although sealed, the battery would still need to be removable, as these batteries certainly don't last forever.
